Caleb Chandler commits

This definitely hurts, but I'm guessing if you asked Campbell and Manning they would tell you they knew they would have to recruit this guy to the end and that they'd be happy to do it. He said he would still take an official to ISU, so we're not out of it. We just have to trust in the coaching staff that their vision and relationship with Chandler wins out. A few good wins could go a long way as well.

There's the kick to the stones we've all been waiting for!

Hopefully he takes his officials and still feels good about ISU. Get him on campus for a game and re-seal the deal.

That guy ain't coming here. He didn't have to de-commit to take other visits.

Couldn't find it, but I remember seeing/hearing a quote from Campbell that basically said if you commit to ISU, you don't take any further visits. If you do, ISU pulls your offer.

Maybe this is a case of that. This kid wants to take other visits, Campbell said No, so he's decommitting to take those visits.
Obviously this doesn't look good, but as long as he he still comes to Ames this fall, I'm happy that he gave ISU a chance.

It seems like all coaches have this rule, but I don't think that prevents these things from happening. I would think that most schools would still recruit someone who committed and then de-committed, unless your Bama or Texas.

Bottom line, is you recruit a potential student athlete until they sign the LOI. Once they do that, it is official. I may not be old enough, but I think that the whole "commit" thing came once Rivals, Scouts, and the likes began to track this stuff.

Hey SEC I'm gonna do it, I WILL! Ill commit to a bottom feeder if you don't... Oh I was just playing Georgia, teehee.

Might be worth noting he just tweeted out saying Miami sent their regards his way. Maybe. That's something near offer #28 for him so it's hard to tell.

I don't mean this directed at this guy but the whole "I have to write this long note on twitter thanking God and everyone and saying I am so blessed and ____________ is my decision" is kind of getting old to me. Something about the way that everyone does the same thing is just getting worn out.

Oh, and get off my lawn.

Edit to say: I hope we get him and I don't blame someone for doing this. Big decision and these are 17-18 year old kids - they have to do what's right for them - I hope for Caleb it's ISU!

Some posters need to realize that this is a free/public forum and try to be careful...lets stay classy and represent what is ISU well. I mean the kid said what he said and that is may have rushed into a life altering decision..Let him give it some thought and visit in fall and see where cards drop. Still think ISU has as good shot as any with this staff behind the helm.

If that was my son I would be encouraging him to take official visits. So this really isn't surprising to me. I would have also instructed him not to commit to ISU if he wasn't ready but then again I did a heck of lot worse things at 17/18 then this kid just did...

It doesn't bother me at all that a kid wants to be very sure of their decision. I'm actually surprised that so many commit so early now a days. It is a big decision. However, I do hope the cheaters closer to the home town don't have time to sway the decision.

It's all just a show these days and a lot of them are such attention whores

Good on Caleb to weigh his options completely though. I wish he wouldn't have jumped into commiting weeks ago, but the emotional rush that he may have had probably sprung the split decision. I'm sure none of the posters bashing his decision have made a rash mistake

Well this thread got ugly in a hurry. Keep in mind, if you don't commit early, 99% of the time coaches don't hold your spot. Better to commit, then decommit if you must. ....even if fans get really butt hurt toward you.

Why is this an issue? He wants to make sure he's making the right choice. Nothing wrong with that. Here's hoping he finds out ISU is still the right fit. It's his football career that's at stake, not ours. I personally think ISU has a ton to offer and if what ISU has to offer is a fit for him, he'll be back.
