I wanted to get the word out about what a great experience I've had this year as I wind down my first season as a Barnstormers season ticket holder.

I have never been a big Arena Football fan. I went to 2 games when the AFL Barnstormers were playing at Vets, and I went to one game at Tampa Bay when I was visiting the area a few years ago. I wasn't exactly overwhelmed with the urge to become an Arena football fan, but it was a pleasant diversion for a weekend night.

This past December I was shopping for some gift ideas for a Christmas gift for my brother and I thought it would be a novel idea to get season tickets so we could do something new and do it together. I did it on a whim, and I was skeptical about what it would actually be like.

I have to say to my surprise that the Barnstormers games have been some of the best fun I have had in central Iowa. The games are intense, fast paced and have proven to be very competitive until the last few minutes. Even though Iowa isn't in playoff contention every game has been pure joy.

From the tailgating atmosphere with plenty of ISU fans in the mix to the really nice and insightful fans I have met in the stands. i know there is a perception of Barnstormers fans being "toothless eastsiders" and in my experience that has been the furthest thing from the truth.

This season I have rubbed elbows with great fans, players and ownership. The season is winding down here and I wanted to clue my friends on CycloneFanatic in to one of the the most cost-effective bang-for-the-buck experiences I have had in recent memory. If you enjoy a high-scoring and explosive evening of entertainment I highly encourage you to give the Barnstormers a shot and support them in one of their final two games of the season against the Quad Cities and Tulsa. If you decide to make it down, stop by my tailgate in the lot north of WFA and look for the ISU "CYHARD" plate and say "Hola."

The first five minutes of my first Barnstormers game was more fun and had better production value than the entire Energy game I went to.

Just a reminder that the Quad City Steamwheelers are coming to town this Saturday July 12 at 7:05 PM. The Steamwheelers are one of Iowa's biggest rivals and they pack a lot of Wheeler fans on "caravan" buses over to watch the games. Their fans are the pits, and like to brag about their two Arena Cup championships. I like to point out that they cheated by breaking the salary cap to win them.

Iowa and QC are tied this season at 1-1. Iowa won their first meeting in Moline, and QC won in WFA last month.

This is "Black Out" game which fills my brain with unpleasant Hawkeye odors. Good thing I have a lot of Barnstormers merchandise.

The Barnstormers are also vying for the Pilot Wheel & Prop Trophy which goes to the victor of the annual series between Quad Cities and Iowa.

Iowa is currently 2nd in attendance in the AF2 this season behind Spokane. There are however plenty of inexpensive tickets left for the game.

This seems like an interesting trophy, I would like to see a picture of it. I have never been to a Barnstormers game, but would love to go to one sometime. Unfortunately it is a little far for me.

I went to the 2nd game against quad city with some friends. We all had a great time. I thought it was really cool when I got there. The defense is awful. But the offense makes up for that in excitement and big plays. But i guess this is arena football where they barely play defense. LOL
