They could pull his redshirt if needed.

you don't claim a redshirt until after the season is over and you haven't played. if he's good in practice and **** goes down he can play.
That would work great if the injury is early in the season, but there would be no guarantee of that happening that way. If Monte somehow got injured and out for the year in, let's say, late conference play or BigXII tournament, would you burn his redshirt? To play less than 10 games? That would be a waste, plus he might not be up to speed to just pick up as a starting PG that late in the year.

I want him to come and play and not redshirt. although I prefer him to come and redshirt over not coming at all. I think he's got something to offer to this next years team and I can't imagine his wrist won't be fine by then.

This is what I'm thinking.

If he RS's then does that mean the staff like what they saw from Babb running the point in practice? That's intriguing.

Wonder if he RS, if it'll affect who we play at the 3 spot. Feel like DJ was critical to running a three guard setup and running it deep.

Good point. If he redshirts, either they have a lot of confidence in Babb and Jacolby Long to be the go to guards off the bench, or either Matt or Naz will come off the bench, with Burton and Bowie starting, or some other combination. It definitely changes things up.

Neither Naz or Matt is coming off the bench. We will play the guard lineup with Burton and Bowie/Carter/Young. Jakolby Long and Babb will come off the bench. I think we still score L.G. Gill to play the 4/5 or be the first big man off the bench.

Given up on malou?

That's encouraging. I guess I just assumed he only a SG

I think his problem is he doesn't have a good jump shot. I think he's only like his brother in that he has the raw material to play at a high level, but he is very far from a clone of Chris Babb.

How about as a small forward?

Why can't Naz come off the bench? He has two surgically repaired degenerative hips and isn't playing 30 minutes a game. Also if we play more 2 pg lineups with DJ and MM someone's minutes are going down and it's not Thomas. Naz was a great 6th man two years ago and given his condition would be a logical role this year with all our guards. Don't expect the Naz from 2014-15 IMO.

Naz averaged 31.5 minutes through the first 8 games last year on a terrible set of hips and averaged 12 pts a game. He is playing 28-32 a night at a minimum.

Exactly, and he pulled himself out of the season from chronic pain because of it. I'd rather not see a repeat of that..

But how many did he average as a junior? I was under the impression it was under thirty. Our back court depth was a joke last year so if it's not a necessity this upcoming year I don't understand why we would need to play him 30+ per game.
