Donovan Jackson commits

It kind of does. Other schools can't talk to him. He would have to be released from his LOI. And he'd be screwing us over deciding this late to change his mind.

Schools can't talk to him, but they can talk to his coach, or others around him. I'm certain he has a pretty good idea of what's available, if he decides to not come to Iowa St.

"Screwing us over" is a pretty strong statement. There is no denying that the Iowa St landscape has changed significantly since he signed. Things like this happen in college bball.

Personally from a selfish perspective I hope he redshirt's. I think it would benefit us (and possibly him) with Naz and Monte being back next year.
Everything I am hearing in the background paints a positive pictures that Jackson will still end up at Iowa State. Potential that he could RS though because of the wrist/playing time.

Thanks for the update,
If his wrist isn't 100% and he is willing to RS this could be the perfect scenario for Prohm. D-Jax can get fully healthy, be in the program for a year to get adjusted, practice against a AA-levell PG and be penciled in for a starting spot in '17.
Not to mention he staff is obviously scouring PG's for 2017 and 18 would lessen the need for one of the Freshman to play major minutes right away. Next years team will be having a back court minutes crunch with Monte and Naz returning (not to mention Cooke and Babb). All of Coach Prohms potential issues he seem to have a few weeks could be fixed by a RS.
Donovan should do what is best for him and sacrificing a RS is a big decision but could work out best for all parties.

Could Jackson play a few games at the beginning of the year and shut it down like Naz did if his wrist isn't feeling right and get a medical redshirt?

He was injured and missed 2 months of the season, Monte stayed, Naz is back, Matt made huge strides...I don't think any one of those things would impact him but all together, it will impact DJ.

I would think so, isn't that what they did with Brady Ernst?

And TJ left.

I feel like that would be playing with fire and don't know if the benefit gained from it would be worth risking.
Him redshirting altogether scares me. One injury to Monte and we are SOL without a true point guard the rest of the year. And we no longer have Niang to help bring the ball down the court. That is a big risk for this staff to take.

Agreed. The only reason to redshirt him would be if he is not medically ready

They could pull his redshirt if needed.

you don't claim a redshirt until after the season is over and you haven't played. if he's good in practice and **** goes down he can play.

I am paranoid, but everytime I hear redshirt, I think of a potential grad transfer. He sounds good enough to play if he sticks with us.
