i really enjoy articles like this. very informative and with some neat graphics/charts.
the thing that stood out to me was how much of the results centered on behaviors we can control like drinking and opiate use. i'm not judging people for making bad choices although it seems much of this increase is due to the ability of choice. i would like to see how the numbers compare to women who don't drink or use drugs.

Gotta be a contributing factor. The things that were killing middle age men are now affecting white women.
Didn't read the article but my guess is that all the white women from the WWII-Vietnam lived while the men died overseas. Now all the old white women are dying because they're old.
