Michigan St. upset ranked #3 in tourney history

I know it doesn't fit the narrative of "first round" upsets, but IMO.....the biggest upset came during my time in school, and that was Villanova's win over Georgetown in the 85' National Championship game.
NC State over Phi Slamma Jamma (Houston) was the biggest ever championship upset I can remember.
MTSU certainly didn't look like a 15 and the Spartans didn't play like a team that thought they should be entitled to a 1. Not sure what I saw looked like an upset so much as an epic fail in seeding.
Statistically it may be 3rd but in terms of prognosticators it has to be nearly first. All the talking heads had MSU as the second or third most likely team to win it all. Hardly any of them didn't have them as a Final Four team. To me it's as close as we've gotten to a 1 seed losing. If Valentine hadn't been injured for a few weeks mid-season MSU is likely the #1 overall seed.
Basically I'm skeptical 1/3 of the sports world had that Mizzou or South Carolina team in the title game they way they had MSU.
