Absolute cluster

Just so i get this straight, some of you are complaining that you got tickets at face value that will now sell for double that if you instead chose to watch the ISU game elsewhere?

The benefit ISU got by hosting was the ability of their fans to get cheap tickets. I don't feel all that bad that instead of having your cake and eating it too, you only get to pocket a couple hundred dollars for you troubles.

We bought our tickets months ago knowing full well that we would not see ISU play there. We wanted to experience the NCAA first rounds, and we're not in a position to travel last minute when we find out where our team is playing. :(

We had a 50/50 chance of having ISU play in one of the Friday/Sunday pods. Instead, UNI & Iowa were placed in those pods and ISU was placed in a time-competing pod.

So yeah...it's disappointing that we aren't able to watch our games "live", but we bought the tickets at a lower price because we wanted to watch the games in person, not so that we would be able to price gouge on the secondary market.

no one made money yesterday. tickets were $20 a piece yesterday with a $90 face value. there were hundreds of people selling tickets - not just scalpers but tons of ISU fans.

And tickets for Saturday were being sold for hundreds last night.

I don't think I'm made out to be someone that buys a bunch of tickets with the idea to scalp them on a regular basis because the whole thing makes me nervous. But not everyone had trouble getting rid of tickets this week. You just needed some luck and probably had to know that you should try and sell early.

Also, if I was lucky enough to have tickets for Saturday, as a fan of college bb I sure wouldn't miss Kentucky-Indiana just to watch Iowa State. Thats why they invented dvrs. How many times has this happened in Sea Moines.

Like the previous poster pointed out, people that bought tickets to the event went in knowing it was a good possibility their favorite team from Iowa would play during the event.

Wait, what? Are you serious?

This argument isn't about ticket prices. It's about Iowa State fans who bought tickets to support our local session and then in-turn have to decide to support the sessions or watch Iowa State.

On a scale of 1-10 in annoyances it's about a 2. Not a big deal - just something to think about next time this opportunity comes up. I know I was excited to watch the games in DSM but after learning of the ISU game times my excitement dropped way down. Ideally we'd have an opportunity to watch our team play and then support our local sessions and they wouldn't compete. Oh well

I guess it could happen and did happen but as an ISU fan I'd be looking to unload those tickets in a heartbeat to watch the game before I watch Kentucky - Indiana or whoever.

Ok, well as an Iowa State fan who lives in Des Moines I would go support my city in its first ever NCAA bid before I would watch Iowa State-Arkansas Little Rock. I would bring my smart phone and check the score often, wear my cyclone gear, probably go out in the hall and watch the tvs to get updates, and then watch the game on dvr when I got home.

I'm sorry if some of you feel one game is more important than the NCAA tournament being held 5 minutes from my house for the first time in my lifetime. Its kind of a big deal around here.

Here's my issue. I get having the problems with the games at the same time yesterday because there are games all day in Des Moines. The problem though is Saturday there are only two games in each location and it is right in the middle. There's like 5 hours of the what 20 hours of the second round that it is an issue. Put Denver as a late game or early afternoon. And Des Moines the opposite. Sure it adds to the things you have to consider but there aren't that many host schools actually in the tournament.

TV dictates everything. It was pretty obvious before the games were announced that Providence and Des Moines were going to be placed on CBS as those two have by far the biggest drawing TV eyeballs, and Des Moines was likely to be the night games with their draws. With 1 morning session, and 3 evening sessions, it was inevitable that ISU was going to overlap with Des Moines.

you're on a website populated by the most fanatical cyclone fans around. generally we see an iowa state game (to go to the sweet sixteen) as more important than any other game. If Iowa State played at the same time as the superbowl we'd watch Iowa State. That's why the opinions on here may differ from those on the street where people aren't as fanatical about ISU.

I told myself, after the matchups were announced, that watching a combined 20 championships would be incredible - and it would be - but watching ISU is more important.

You're going to be in a very small minority there. As another cyclone fan that lives in Des Moines, I don't give a **** about any team other than ISU.

Guess none of you wanted to go support our local sessions. Because it's impossible to watch ISU and support our local session.

It's nice that people do, but with ISU games very probably going on at the same time, there was no way I was going to get tickets for this. That kind of thing should be factored in.

Also, they have way too many different considerations, and this is probably last on their list.

I think part of my issue is that we have always been told that Des Moines can't be a successful host. We have responded repeatedly that we will definitely support it and now that we finally have it they are making us chose. Also both UNI and Iowa were given Friday Sunday games. In the end it really isn't the biggest deal, but it seems like we were given a fairly raw deal on it.

It's kind of like having a big family reunion planned. You finally get everyone in the family to agree to fly in, rent the party room, etc., and then then you schedule your child's state championship game on the same day. Everyone is pumped to come to the reunion but now you're making them choose between the reunion and watching your child.

So let me get this straight...Iowa State beats Iona by double digits, and Arkansas-Little Rock does us a favor and knocks off Purdue to set up a matchup against a #12 seed and people are complaining about stupid scheduling conflicts? Get over it, enjoy last our chances to see this group of guys play together. Whine about the stupid stuff after the tourney.

I don't see the big deal. I was stuck at work yesterday, so only could listen to the game on radio. I don't see an issue of a fan following a game via radio/streaming/whatever in their seats, similar to KCClone.

The games should be crowded on Saturday. Of all of the complaining I read about Kentucky fans boycotting due to the "horrible location," now that they're playing Indiana on Saturday had posters commenting about making the drive up.

I also live 5 minutes from Wells Fargo. I would skip this event to watch the 3rd ISU non-con game of the regular season on cyclones.tv.

If the tickets are bought and paid for, the favor has been done.

Or why not have only conferences host sites, not individual schools. There are 30 odd conferences now. Let the little guys earn their a****ids by hosting a site every now and then.

DM could have been handled by the Missouri Valley.

Missouri Valley is hosting in St. Louis. Their offices are in St. Louis, so I doubt they have any interest in hosting a site in Des Moines.

I'm guessing the MVC schools pool their resources to handle the site in St. Louis, and their schools assist with that rather than trying to host on their own. The MVC schools don't have near the staff/resources we have to be able to do it on their own.

in 2012 when UNI hosted the Women's Elite 8 in DSM, ISU assisted.

No offense but the ncaa couldn't care less who shows up to the games.....it's what the eyeballs on the televisions. That's where they make the money.
