Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

As of today, Iowa has a whopping total of 4 top 50 rpi wins (over two total teams)

ISU has 7

They actually have 5 and then 7 over the top 54. Also, everyone knows that RPI is deeply flawed yet I always see you referencing it. You must think that Monmouth is the 35th best team in the country then, right?

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

During the Indiana/MSU game this weekend, one of the announcers was taking about Indiana's record and why they weren't in the top 25. IIRC, that game was Indiana's 26th game and only their 3rd game against a top 25 team. The Big Ten has fallen off the map in both football and basketball.

Why not I guess? Have some pretty decent wins in the non conference. RPI is the main metric the tournament committee uses. Each ranking isn't perfect, but RPI has fewer flaws than most.

How is the RPI flawed? There is no bias in it and compares every teams record in the nation.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

I've come around on RPI somewhat because getting into the NCAA tourney is supposed to reward a teams results rather than talent. I would like to see the NCAA substantiate the current formula a bit but the bottom line is that it gives every team a chance to manage towards a pre-determined metric before the season begins and everyone is in the same boat.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Just being a part of the Big 10 should be a big red flag come tourny time. So many bad teams.

Ohio State has 0 wins vs the top 100 in conference play, yet they are 8-5.

8 wins outside the top 100! Insane.

Flawed? It's one of the most important metrics to get into the tournament. Hawk fans love to cherry pick and then tout their ratings from different systems when the timing is right (see Jon Miller/PlannedSickDays on twitter ). The Big 10 is down this year, by every ranking system out there.

Big 12 can't say much until we deliver in the post season. Recently a lot of disappointments

They do hold wins over UCLA, USC and Notre Dame. Iowa couldn't beat Notre Dame.

No metric is perfect but how is the RPI deeply flawed?

Why? What does the post season have to do with the regular conference season and the OOC season? They are 3 very distinct and unique phases of the season.

I wanna say it had been almost 2 months since Indiana played a ranked team, for sure Iowa was the first b1g team they played that was ranked. Honestly, you have to kind of feel for Iowa, think about their record if they had Indiana's schedule. The bigger conferences need to go back to a division schedule or only play each team 1 time and play more non con, at this point, I'll give the b1g Iowa, MSU and Maryland, maybe even Wisconsin bc they played a very strong non con but there is no way to really tell how good any of the other 10 teams are, their records are 100% a result of the strength/weakness of their conference schedule.

Which is why they invented:

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Is this the thread where Hawk fans were saying Dom Uhl was better than Burton? That was fun
