what's wrong with this team?

I want to say this. I thought Coach Prohm coached very well this game despite the loss. This one was on the officiating.

We all know that Fred didn't leave the roster in an ideal condition but that's history now. My point is we are hearing lots of stuff about Prohm needing to get his guys and these players need to buy into his program.

Well, next year he won't have the problem of too many Fred holdovers.

It will be time to put away the "blame the players" approach and it will be his team.

This isn't like taking over a crappy football program where you have to build a foundation and get players into their JR or SR year before they can contribute.

You can find FR that can play in basketball and the cupboard is not bare next year with who is returning. Our schedule is relatively easier than this year.

If we lose more than a couple of home games next year or miss the tourney, I don't think its fair to keep blaming Fred.

That has to end after this season.

If Fred didn't leave much as far as talent on the bench then how can Prohm fix the problem in one year after all the real talent leaves? Let's face it, ISU is not Kentucky. We will not bring in freshman all-americans year after year to plug and play. The problem with Freds lack of real recruiting over the last couple years is that it holds the program back for the next 2-4 years. It will take time for Prohm to get the talent level back up, and have the bench necessary for a run anytime soon.

The only real hope of a good season (good to us) is to have Monte stay.

Can someone please tell me why Ashton plays so much more than Cooke? In 49 minutes in the last two games, Ashton has a grand total of 3 pts, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist, all while playing mediocre defense.

I don't get it; he doesn't do anything that bad, but provides basically nothing on offense. Cooke was playing ~15 minutes a game, missed 1 game for suspension, and has gotten over 5 minutes in a game only 1 time since. I get why Ashton subbed in for Cooke at that time, but I just don't see that he's done anything to maintain the amount of minutes he's getting.

From the gigantic McKay thread, some posters alluded to Cooke having similar attitude issues as McKay, which is why he's been in the doghouse.

When Matt Thomas is listed as your defensive specialist, you have found the problem.

[and no offense to Matt, he's been playing great]

inconsistent effort on defense and rebounding plus some stupid plays late thay have cost them a couple games. Hopefully McKay comes back focused and ready to give his all bc they can still have a great season if everything comes together

Agree. Cooke has more talent and should be playing more.

Free throws are a huge issue.

ISU 6 for 10, Tech 17 for 23. We can't win in this conference with that discrepancy. If our style of play isn't going to get to the free throw line more than that, we have to shoot much better than 60% from the line.

It's hilarious how once we got a little bit of a taste of success, we became spoiled. Oh and all the hot takes here are quite entertaining.

I don't see how you can say that Prohm isn't responsible for our losses. Our team is good enough to be up in every game... when we have that lead with a few to go we always get soft and the gap closes. Sure the opposing teams seem to shoot 150% from 3 in the last three minutes of every game. But we shouldn't be in a position for that to beat us.

I've noticed that when it starts getting down to the last few minutes of games he slows the offense down a ton. Slower than the rest of the game which I think hurts the offense bc it stops the flow and they lose the lead. I think that has cost them a couple games. This is his first time coaching anywhere near this level so it's expected that he will make some mistakes.

Yeah I don't know why but ISU is not drawing many fouls this year which you think they would within Monte and Georges

Hallice Cooke is usually good for 0-3 points a game with 2-3 turnovers while getting roasted on defense.

They don't know how to play with a lead, even with Hoiberg. And they've never played well as favorites. The best year Hoiberg had, they played the underdog card, played with a chip on their shoulder and had toughness with Ejim & Kane. Plus depth
