Is there still hope that Naz returns?

Prohm said that Naz practiced for the first time today at full go. Part of me says this, there is still at minimum 10 games left in the season. It's pry killing him not being out there on game days and he pry knows that there is a lot better chance of a title run this year vs next year, especially with him playing. My realistic side says, he's sat out this long already, he will get a full year next year which personally would benefit him. At first I didn't think his absence would kill us and it hasn't, but this team was a different team with him for sure.

The thing is a medical redshirt isn't guaranteed. I have no idea what the timeline is when we'd find out but if by chance they are hearing the chances are like 50/50, I would pull the trigger and say 'screw it...I want to play NOW rather than wait and see I am not granted the redshirt'

Since Naz hasn't played more than 30% of the games this season, his medical redshirt is pretty much a given.

What risk is there of him not getting one? He played below the threshold and is out due to an injury. Pretty cut and dry. I have seen this posted a few times but no one has any rationale for why Naz wouldn't get a medical redshirt other than "Sometimes people don't get medical redshirts." The circumstances are different.

So you play him or 8 games, then don't play him for 15 games, and then bring him back for the rest of the season, and thereby kill a very good chance that he'll be granted permission to play every game next year?

If you think it's your shot to win a national title then yes. All depends on what's most important to him and risk/reward ratio.

Depends on what Prohm and Naz think about this year vs. next year. In a vacuum, having Naz for a full year is absolutely the better option. But next year's team won't have Niang or McKay for sure, and who knows if Morris sticks around. Naz coming back with just Thomas, Burton and Cooke, vs. making one last push for a title with this senior class+Monte, is not such a clear-cut better option.

Are there any rules about him having to really *be out* a year, or any timetables for specific injuries? If he's back to practicing 100% full-tilt, you could make the case he could play the last two months of the season, right?

Some people do have some right to worry about something like that. The NCAA has never been nice to Iowa State when it comes to these kinds of things.

What if him coming back this year meant a final four? Or if he played next year, and the team made the tourney but gets bounced early both years?

IMO, blow your load this year, recharge next year, and get right back on the horse.

Yes it is. Those rules are in stone and he meets the requirements.

I would think if he can go, he would give strong thought to playing this year. I've wondered if he would actually want to come back next year even if he gets the redshirt. His guys will be gone and he may want to just get on with his life.

I actually think Malou and Jackson could make that team as good as, if not better than this one. I'd sit on Naz because i'm not so sure he makes the difference he'd make next year. A lot of that hinges on Malou/Jackson replacing Niang offensively and Malou replacing McKays production defensively. He's pretty much the key. I don't think a Clyburn like season is out of the equation.

Or let's start the Naz is going to transfer rumors one more time

Doesn't Naz deserve a full year to play out his eligibility? LOTS of what if's when it comes to The Tourney.
