NCAA in Des Moines

The way Iowa is playing right now they may end up a 1 seed in Des Moines and win the whole dang tournament.
They have Guards, shooters, height, depth and are physical. Good for them for actually doing something with it.

You might want to be careful giving Iowa any kind of respect or praise on here, you'll be labeled a troll pretty fast on this board.

I don't understand the bid process 100%, but here is the basic understanding of it. ISU makes a bid to the NCAA estimating the amount of money that the NCAA will make if it comes to Des Moines. If the NCAA likes the bid then it accepts. However, the NCAA will take home the amount of money that the bid claimed regardless if that money was actually generated. For example, lets say ISU made a $5 million bid for the NCAA to come to Des Moines and they generated $7 million in profit from the weekend, then ISU would pay the NCAA the $5 million and ISU would take home the extra $2 million. However, if they make $3 million in profit then ISU still has to pay the NCAA $5 million. All in all, Pollard is praying that Iowa comes to Des Moines since it would mean a lot $$$ for ISU. This is how I have been told the bid process works.

Iowa won't remain a 2 seed. Remember two years ago when they thought they were hot **** and took a tumble and lost 6 or their last 7 (including Senior Day loss to Illinois and bounced out by NW in B1G tournament)? Don't worry. As Fran showed us in Hilton (twice), he is the master of falling apart at the end.

Maybe because I live in Council Bluffs and work in Omaha, I don't understand the single-minded Hawkeye hatred. Rivalries are one thing, to hate about it every minute of every day is another. I would like to point out that the Hawkeye game was a true road game for them, and we've had two games at home in Hilton where we fell apart at the end.

Can we get over this already? Yes, Iowa will probably end up in Des Moines. Yes, Iowa has more fans than us. Yes, Iowa is higher ranked. Yes, Iowa looks like a better team right now. Iowa will probably go farther in the tourney. I have come to terms, you should too. Any true cyclone fan should always have their nut cup ready.

Iowa fell apart last year when they won their last 7 conference games during the regular season? You might be thinking of 2014 when the core of their team was inexperienced sophomores. All of those players are seniors this season. But you're right, what happens 2 years ago will dictate what happens now.

So if they arent good enough for a 2 seed where will they end up? Their Big Ten games arent even competitive at this point and most national publications have them as a #1 seed right now.

I'm planning on hanging around outside the arena the first day. Usually you can poach tickets off the losers from day one and get cheaper tickets for the second day.

I just threw up in my mouth because I know what you say may be true.

Curious if any tickets usually become available after pairings are announced... for example, if Kansas fans bought tickets for Des Moines thinking they would be the #1 seed here, and they get assigned somewhere else?

That is possible but I'm sure they will sell those at market value, as well. The Des Moines ticket is going to be expensive no matter who plays here just because of the novelty for the market. It just depends how expensive based who plays here... If Kansas AND Iowa end up here it is going to get ridiculous because KU fans are not afraid to spend big money on tickets.

Could work, but there's also a pretty good chance the losing teams don't have fans there. If it is Iowa and ku, then they will force their opponents to pay higher the first day, which may limit the number that come.

Plus Iowa and ku are looking like high seeds, so I doubt there's many fans of a 16 or 14 seed coming.
