*** #14 IOWA STATE vs #5 Texas A&M Game(day) Thread ***

oh brother the mentally weak stuff comes out again. ITS a ******* tired argument.
We had some good shots down the road, did not fall. IT happens.

Free throw shooting could have been better
We were not mentally strong down the stretch. Can't deny it. The big mental lapses were Nader taking a contested long 2 down 5 with a little over a minute left, Niangs 5th foul, and Burtons foul towards the end. Also Monte taking a contested 3. Wasn't smart basketball in the last 3 minutes.

Pretty ugly game. 6/23 from the arc, 4-12 from charity stripe (missed two front ends of one and one.....we never seem to make these), 16 turnovers. 20 fouls (average 14 a game).

Nice effort by the boys. However, I saw a lot of standing around until the shot clock was down to 10-12 seconds, especially the latter half of the 2nd half. That is not us. Where is the movement? I know Niang was out of the game for some stretches but need to move.

About what I expected, just impossible to be up for this game. Basically meaningless for us, huge for them...million miles from home, sandwiched between 3 huge games.

The whole concept of this challenge is stupid. Just glad nobody got hurt. Nice to have this one, but really meaningless. Hard to get up for this one when you got 6 guys.
I don't think it's a stupid challenge. I just think ISU drew a tough card when dealt TAMU. Probably not the preseason SEC favorite, but playing and have played like it all year long. If Niang's injury is serious, and it happened in this particular game, I would be more inclined to agree with you in the placement of the challenge in the middle of Big 12 play.

I thought McKay battled today. I think pinning this loss on him is silly and unfair...but he has brought on a lot of it on his own by repeatedly airing his dirty laundry...it's not at all like last year with Matt, where he went out and battled every night, and never complained, but still got ripped into.

This loss is not on him, but McKay just fails to box out so many possesions, it's poor fundamentals that you shouldn't have to worry about with a senior.

Didn't catch our three wins against current top five teams, or do they not get credit for that?

Yeah...they looked a bit rattled late. Maybe the toughest environment in a long time if not the whole season (thinking OU in Norman), and they really didn't respond well.

Good for future situations though.

Classic FIXED game. Why even play the game when you allow completely biased officiating? Granted, we did NOT play our best game, BUT when you are a player on the floor and the referrees are absolutely fleecing you at nearly every turn, it is HARD not to react a bit. Recenly, this Cyclone basketball team has responded extremely well to adversity (including bad calls)...I believe today was simply overwhelming and was a bit too much to ignore and overcome. The BEST thing this team can do now is to completely WIPE the memory of this debacle from their minds and fotget it even happened! And - you TOTALLY SUCK - Don Travel Daley (or whatever your despicable name is)! Go Cyclones!

Make free throws and stop blaming the refs. Good Lord...

Edit...This team will be fine, beat WVU Tuesday and they'll be back on track

They will be fine yes. several reasons for a loss, but give me a break about giving these refs a pass on this one! Theres no question horrible officiating played a role too. For example, ISU was called for five offensive fouls to zero for aTm! Not even taking "travelgate" into the equation.

Were we satisfied with the degree of cheering of each of the players when on the bench?

Honestly, these were 2 bad looking teams on Saturday. Texas A&M really can't shoot for ****. Notice the first half they shot brick after brick and scored all points in the paint. All the traveling BS is ridiculous though. Every team travels when they hand the ball off and quick shuffle.

For all the whining back and forth concerning McKay, he played a horrid 1st half and a pretty good 2nd half. Aggravating when I turn on the TV and the first thing I see is McKay watching a guard drive for an uncontested dunk with McKay watching from 4 ft away.

Sometimes it does feel like he plays better in the box score than on the court (the reverse of Thomas).

There were several good shots by NIang that rolled across the rim and did not fall. Hits them different game.
The Burton got fouled on a 3.

Some things not meant to be do give me this bs about them being a mentally weak team.

This is just dumb. This was a huge game. We haven't won many, if any, big games on the road. That's important come seeding time. And it's not like we're so good we can pick and choose which games to compete in and which to mail it in. The better team won.

Foul trouble, turnovers (some of them unearned) and a little bit of home cooking. A&M plays good defense and did catch us napping a few times.

On to the next game
Agree. They showed toughness and played hard, just didn't execute nearly enough to overcome the numerous challenges (talented A$M team, tough road environment, questionable foul trouble). We lost this game because some of our weaknesses, as well as other factors. The good news is if we play like that in March it should not be until later rounds that those are exploited.*

*assuming the committee does **** us like normal.
