Iowa State #14 in AP Poll (1/25)

Soft schedule?! Wow.

Iowa has the #8 ranked toughest schedule in the nation so far per Sagarin.

Hey, get your facts out of here!! This thread is only about crying about Iowas ranking and we dont need no facts to dispute the biased opinions.

We are the 3rd highest four-loss team. I think you can argue we're a little low, but not badly under-ranked.

FWIW, Bracket Matrix has us as the third 3 seed, or the 11th overall team, which would be closer to where I think ISU belongs right now.

I think 10-11 range is a fair assessment of the strength of our team. Luckily, we have all kinds of opportunities to prove it.

Not even Iowa will get two rounds with Rutgers this year, and they play in the same conference. Iowa's conference schedule is actually daunting if you care to have a look

That's what I thought as well. For them to be #3 seems pretty accurate. So we beat them, ok? But they've also been on fire since that debacle. It's not like we blew the doors off them, they choked and we got hot.

Well, RPI has their schedule at 29th (ISU's is 10th). They caught MSU twice when MSU was really struggling (loss at home to Nebraska, barely beat Oakland and Minnesota) and Purdue is really really overrated. Who has Purdue beaten? They've lost all of their games against ranked teams and they just lost to freaking Illinois. Iowa's little stretch is impressive, but lets not get carried away (like Iowa fans did with football cough,.....Stanford).

Yes, they are a good team, but not sure I'd put them in the top 10 yet. But they are, which is good for ISU (since they beat Iowa). That gives ISU two wins against teams currently ranked in the top 10. I don't think Iowa has any right now. :pwink:

That could easily change as I think they could definitely beat Maryland. They match up well, and Maryland isn't exactly lighting the world on fire right now.

I get the feeling that all of the "joking" about beating 4 out of the top 5 is a jinx. Have to win tonight to even have a chance at that. I'm back to being superstitious after trying to break myself of it. Can't go to a certain buddy's house, need to have a code red mixed with mountain dew, have to wear the right shirt, and have to shave. Stupid, I know, but I stopped worrying about any of it and we lost to OU, BU, and UT during that stretch.

So quit with the optimistic discussion as every time we do it seems to kick us in the junk. sort of :jimlad:

Maryland also has not beat many worthy teams.

True, but don't tell that to the Iowa media/fans. Iowa is the greatest team ever, they have the toughest schedule in history, and Uthoff is the greatest player in history.

I caught about 5 minutes of Murph and Andy this afternoon, and it was total a total Iowagasim.

Great post! LOTS of season left. Rankings and seeding speculation etc. is ridiculous right now. Honestly, who cares? Far too much attention and focus on these things when what truly matters is going out and proving it with solid performances. Let's just see how this plays out.

Hey, guys, this is a thread about Iowa State's ranking so please keep comments about Maryland, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, Baylor, UNI, Purdue, Rutgers, Wichita State, Duke, etc. out of it.

And just to break my own rule:

Michigan State should have dropped a dozen spots in the poll simply for wearing those god awful highlighter uniforms this weekend.

win both and they'll get back to number 9 next week
Unless you are making a #9 joke, no way. If we win against #4 Kansas and then go on the road and beat #5 A&M, we will be #6 or #7 and if some of the other top 10 teams lose, we would move up even more.

I have to imagine if we win out this week we'll have the most wins over the top 5 by a comfortable margin.

Would we have won more against the top 5 than anybody else has even played?

Why? We play most of those teams (or teams that play them). It might have an impact on our ranking in the future. Are you, like, the post police or something?

Man I hope we win out this week so we're 17-4 with wins over basically the entire top 5. That'd have to result in a huge jump.
