Iowa State #14 in AP Poll (1/25)

How does KU, who got blown out by 20 to a .500 caliber team in OSU, only drop 1 ******* spot? ISU should be 10th or 11th... but whatever. Keep proving it on the court and stay hungry.

Beat KU!

Also of note is Duke hanging toward the bottom of the poll at #24 with just one game this week @ Miami (tonight). Duke is one of three schools with a longer active streak of consecutive weeks in the AP Top 25 than Iowa State.

If Duke loses (and they are a 3.5 point underdog), they will likely drop out of the poll next week and ISU could move to #3 on that list behind Kansas and Arizona.

We will have wins over 4 of the top 5 after this week. We will be in the top 10 next week!

We could have wins over 4 of the top 5 by Saturday.

By weeks end, we may have wins over 4 of the top five teams.

Hey by weeks end we will have wins over 4 of the top 5.

4 we by weeks 5 end beat will top

Something else I'm throwing out there - we could have four wins over the top five by the time the week is over.

Not sure if you have heard, but we could have wins against 4 of the top 5 after this week.

As an aside, we could actually have wins over 4 of the top 5 teams by week's end. Pretty cool, if you think about it.

It's pretty amazing that by the end of the week we could have beaten four out of the top 5 teams.

At least after these next two we get a little bit of a break with WVU

Why do we fall 5 spots (from 9 to 14) when we lose at top ranked Oklahoma and they stay number 1 when they lose at our place (to a lower ranked team).

Yep, lose to them is really the only thing that hurts us RPI/KENPOM wise. Though I think the later is a bit of joke....

I'm still trying to decide which loss I think is worse - Baylor or UNI. Baylor is clearly and far and away the better team, but it's at Hilton. UNI is much worse than Baylor, but it's a neutral site and it's also the only shot that UNI players had at either of the in-state "big boys" this year. Wes Washpun, an in-state guy, had the game of his career that night. So if I look at the "worse" loss as the least excusable one, it's a close call.

Well our wins over Chicago St and Coppin St actually hurt us more than the UNI loss in RPI.

I just wanted to be the first to say that by the time this week is over, we can have beaten four of the top five in this week's poll.

Kenpom's algorithm isn't a joke, and wasn't significantly affected by the UNI loss. It was majorly affected by our string of 4 or 5 games where we played horrible defense (from a points per possession standpoint). Our defensive efficiency rating dropped from ~70 to ~125 in that span, and in the last 3 games has recovered to #73. We need to get back to the Top 40 to have a legit chance at the Final 4.

Gosh, we could have wins over 4 of the top 5 teams by the end of the week. Ain't that somethin'. :realmad:

Can someone please explain the MSU-boner with this poll, I get they came back and got a big W on Saturday against Maryland, they lost 3 straight prior to that, and 2 against non-ranked teams.... And only dropped 1 spot, short-term memory much???
Voters are going to project what they think will happen, which in this case is the typical MSU righting the ship by March and rolling when it matters. So i do inderstand it to some extent. Based on resume they are vastly overrated. According to ESPNs reverse engineered RPI MSU is 30th. I think ISU at 14 is about right. So many opportunities for big wins no reason to worry about rankings at this point. That and the fact that polls don't really matter other than the pub. We have enough big games on ESPN that pub is not a problem.

I'm just noticing something, fellas. By the end of this week, you folks could have wins over 4 out of the Top 5 teams in the country, that's pretty cool

I don't know how you can't put us in the top 5 if we win the next two. That would be almost idiotic.

I'd take that Baylor loss back in a heartbeat. We'd be in the drivers seat for the conf. right now!

I agree, but more surprising is the two primary computer models, with supposedly no political bias, both have MSU higher. Look at Sagarin especially - MSU 8 ISU 19. Hard to believe this deep into the season.
