Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Come on man, Woodbury is a little goofy but he's tough. Everyone hates that guy unless he's on your team. He's certainly had a solid career even if it fell short of top 50 recruit projections.

He's a good body in there on D and can hit the boards, but the guy is a complete liability on offense. Is clueless when he has the ball.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

It's virtually impossible to gauge an atmosphere by tv sound. It can vary from crew to crew. I'd wager that most posters particularly in this forum haven't been in Carver. It doesn't hold sound in like Hilton but at court level it is as loud as any other arena when full. Underrated venue IMHO but as of last year they really needed to upgrade the video boards.

I've been to Carver for an ISU vs Iowa game and it is not underrated at all. It's just a bad basketball venue and most Hawkeye fans would agree.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

You understand Purdue won't be ranked Monday right. Sweep of MSU is impressive. They have a couple good wins, I just don't understand the ballwashing going on

Iowa has played the #12 toughest schedule in the nation.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Agree to disagree then. I attend the game every year because it's my favorite event and part of that is because the respective crowds are way into it. (Except 2014 heh)

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

When Purdue drops from the rankings, what current ranked teams will the have wins over besides MSU?

They have four wins against current Top 25 teams, and if Purdue falls out it will be because Iowa has given them two losses.

They have the #12 toughest schedule so far.

Re: 1/25 ranking

After Iowa plays Maryland, they will be favored the rest of the season. That means every loss that they might have would technically be a "bad" loss. Iowa has not played with pressure on them because they were still considered the underdog but now that they won today they have officially become the hunted. We will see how they hold up because we all saw what happened in Ames when they felt pressure.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Also #2 in Kenpom and #7 in RPI. They are the only college basketball team with 5 wins vs. AP Top 25 when they played.

Just because you want theme to be overrated does not make it so.

Re: 1/25 ranking

The old "Iowa plays nobody" argument doesn't hold up here. They play the toughest big 10 teams twice, and the bottom feeders once. Their SOS is very high.

Not saying they play 'nobody'. Just saying that MichState will always get favorable ranking, yet they lost 3 in a row and were clearly not playing that worthy of a #11. Purdue looks like #22 at best, and I think there's a reason Indiana has only been ranked #25. Maryland is a mystery to me....talent and depth looks really good, yet they squeak out a win to Northwestern, Wisconsin, and PennState and lose to Michigan who they drawfed inside. Am I the only one that has questions about Turgeon? Compare that with this weeks #1,#3,#6,#13,#21 and soon to be ranked Texas in the big12 that gets to beat each other up weeky! Having said that, yes Iowa is very good, not debating that.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

I don't think Purdue is a team that we would want to play. We are a finesse team and might have trouble with their bigs. JMHO. In the big ten I think we would match up a lot better with teams like Michigan and Indiana. Same type of game and we would have better talent.

I will gladly play any team that has no speed, no talent in their guard court, and can't shoot.

Re: 1/25 ranking

Just talking Big10. Other than only having to play once at Maryland, will they even have a ranked team left on their conference schedule to play? Indiana , I guess....who has only played the other bottom half cupcake conference teams. They won't compete inside. So yeah, with their ability to shoot it and spread the floor now, they should easily win that conference.

After playing at Maryland this week, Iowa will have played 6 of 8 games against MSU (2), Purdue (2), Michigan, Maryland. Only 1 game against the truly terrible (Rutgers) and 1 against a mediocre team (Nebraska). If Iowa happens to win the league, it will have earned it. Hawks have the most games against the other top 6 teams in the league. Much can change in the next month or so. In the non-con, the wins over Wichita State and Florida State are looking better and better (I realize Van Fleet didn't play for WSU). And the loss to ISU didn't hurt Iowa, losing to good teams on the road isn't penalized by the committee.

Where do you see Iowa at #7 in RPI?

Iowa MBB is going to be a tad overrated in computer rankings because they played some good teams without their best players, and computers don't account for that. They can be both very good and overrated at the same time though. Unlike their football team, which was just plain overrated.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

RPI confirms it. I wish ISU had a schedule as easy as Iowa's

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Friend with access to real time RPI. I guess we will have to wait until tomorrow to confirm.

I guess now you can go tell your friend that you too have managed to secure early access to the highly confidential RPI thanks to your connections who are very high up in the NCAA
