Everything Jakolby Long thread

Whoa...labeling him a lock down defender & playing a lot as a freshmen already? Hope you're right, but I've seen him play a few games and his defensive abilities were not on display. But I wasn't impressed with how his whole team played it in general, but it is high school. Yes, I like his size and I'm not saying he can't be that type of defender, just saying he will have a big learning curve from guarding high school guys to high major college players.

I agree. I don't know how you call a kid an elite defender unless you've seen them play against elite HS players at the very least.

Might not be elite yet but I am sure that he has played defense against some pretty good talents that are recruits this year, I don't know that just guessing. Could be a tough spot to get next year in the backcourt. Especially if Monte stays which Ive heard he most likely is. (thank heavens) we will have Monte, Donovan Jackson, Naz, Matt, cooke, ashton, and babb. Good problem to have!

One of the reasons Iowa State was so interested in Jakolby was because of how he was defending in the EYBL summer circuit. He guarded a lot of the current players in the top 100. If you don't think he's a good defender because of that tournament that was on TV, try to remember that he had a stomach virus all tournament. Jakolby has what it takes to be a great defender next year along with the ability to score. He's top 100 for a reason guys. You expect top 100 recruits to be able to make an impact as a freshman.

Tweet from July from someone who has seen Jakolby play more than almost everyone:

Watched Jakolby Long go toe2toe w/ Jayson Tatum tonight checking him all night & matching his 20pts. Tatum is a pro! #PeachJam

Jakolby was the main guy on Tatum. If you don't know who Tatum is, look him up.

I watched some of his highlights and most of them are him scoring in the post. How good of a 3 point shooter is he?

He's been more consistent with it this year. He's definitely going to be capable of hitting multiple 3's per game. Hit about 4 tonight. Good percentage too, maybe 6-7 attempts.

Jakolby Long's HS career is over as they lost to future Oklahoma State commit and fellow 4-star Lindy Waters. That team also has a top 30 2017 PG named Trae Young.

-Jakolby finished with 32 points.

Lindy's dad came on here and told us that he liked ISU but recruitment stopped as soon as Prohm got here. I was pretty disappointed when I heard it. Still am. I think Lindy will be a damn good player.
Looks like this is one of Waters' first game back. Apparently one of his buddies tweeted a picture of him with an airsoft gun while the school was on lockdown from a school shooting threat, and the administration kicked him out for somehow insinuating that he was going to shoot up the school. Just recently was allowed to come back.

With Ford getting fired, hopefully Lindy goes somewhere else. Preferably outside the big12.

Agree, unless, of course, they sign with Kansas.

So is it an Iowa state rule that coaches can't coach players outside of the sport season? His dad was coach for high school and AAU, don't think you can do that here.
