I worded that poorly. I believe our focus has changed to physical, mauling OL AND big TEs that will overpower small LBs & safeties, whether run blocking or catching passes & running over DBs. This fella fits that mold.

I'm sorry I was agreeing with you. It was more for the posters that said he'd move to tackle.
We're probably telling him that he can be a TE, but we'll switch him to OL after his RS year.... just watch.

I think this pick up is a flex option pick up.............if we get some of the other OL who visited this weekend - Powel, Campbell and Foster then he stays at TE (for the short run)..............if we miss on all three then he could move to tackle as a Plan B............depending on how he develops you decide next year if you need another T or another TE
FWIW - I love the trio of Campbell, Powell and Castillo who visited this weekend......they look like solid players and from what I can tell I think they are all looking at Engineering or at least look strongly at the academics ...........with Campbell and Powell we are fighting it out with Purdue.........a team like Purdue is the type of team we need to be able to beat out for these kind of recruits.....that is a team on the verge of coaching change, we have better facilities, better fans base and equal academics....just my thoughts

Not sure I'd agree ISU and Purdue are equal for academics, especially for engineering
I thought at the end of last season we were a very physical team. Much more physical than we have been in a long time. Getting Soehner and Martin and adding them to our size at WR is awesome. DB on other teams will take some serious punishment playing us.
I have an Engineering degree from ISU. Living in Indiana and Michigan, I have worked with a lot of Purdue Engineers. I have found that Iowa State Engineers consistently out perform Purdue Engineers. That is my experience anyway. And that is why my son is studying Engineering at ISU and not Purdue.
Give him his shot at TE. If in a year or two he's not starting at TE, you show him how much the average offensive tackle makes in the NFL. With good athleticism and an award winning OL coach, he could make it to the league.
All I am saying is that we do not give a ton of ground up when competing for Engineer students ..............in other academic area we are more then a few steps behind some schools like Illinois, Purdue and Indiana
My bigger point is that in the Midwest the three schools above are the ones we need to beat out first.....you can even add Minnesota to that list............none of those schools have winning tradition or ideal location that is superior to Iowa State ..........and I think our facilities are better then all of them

Some people only look at the "rankings" of college programs and not the actual product coming out of them. ISU has some of the best and brightest leaving that program, and they are making employers very happy with their hires. I've seen it a lot over the years.
The plan if definitely not to have him play Tackle.. They really think he could be a match up nightmare in Big 12 because of how many teams play in nickel packages and you would be able to shift from pass to run formations or vice versa without having to sub because of Dylan's versatility. Read or saw somewhere that in his senior year film he splits out wide, lines up in the backfield, as well as lining up as a traditional TE. So not lacking any athleticism IMO..
Here's hoping he works out to be that TE that could really be a weapon in the offense. As a HS senior he already has the frame that you'd want to see in a P5 TE, so hopefully he can also bring the rest -- including blocking for the position. Could be a very nice addition in the future.
Love his versatility. Definitely looks like he has the potential to cause a lot of problems for Big 12 defenses.
