Not a bad loss at all

Every one of UNI's players were "lesser" recruits than ISU's. If that is not a bad loss, I am not sure what is. Yeah, they beat UNC without their best player with a home crowd. Same can be said with them as well but even that favored UNI more than it did against ISU because most of the fans were clearly ISU fans. People say UNI shot out of their minds which is true, so how about some adjustments. Overplay the perimeter and force them to make plays inside. Play 4 guards if necessary but there is no reason their shooting guard is allowed to make 7 three pointers, mostly uncontested.
The most infuriating aspect of this game was the fact, we were very effective down low and instead of sticking with what works, we think we need to match them three for three and clearly were not hitting the shots. Its one thing to let Thomas, Cooke and Niang take open looks, but Nader, Burton and even Morris should have searched out better options before settling on those shots, especially when the team was down. ISU was also effective in drawing the fouls, could have gotten Washpun in foul trouble earlier if they just took it to him over and over again.
I thought this team would learn after the Iowa game debacle but didn't as evident with their game against APB. Maybe a loss here will bring them in and realize they can't take short cuts. They need to do what is working and stick with it and not let up. My fear is that this team is just a top 25 team (5-6 seed) which is not the end of the world.

A 6 seed with how much talent we have coming back, especially compared to other top programs would be disaster in my opinion.

Next year yes. But with Monte and Naz returning, I think we will have an elite guard crew but our post game will be one of the youngest in the nation. I hope Lard or Young will be ready to play at this level as freshmen. I am confident Malou will be fine talent wise.

It always makes me shake my head when ISU fans treat UNI in the same exact way that Iowa fans treat ISU. I wonder if they are even aware of the irony when they do so.

Besides, UNI is 6-2 in their last 8 games against ISU, with both losses in overtime. Maybe ISU needs to start treating the game against UNI as their Super Bowl.

Just because Iowa fans treat ISU that way doesn't mean they're right. And just because ISU treats UNI that way, doesn't mean we're wrong.

Between Iowa, ISU and UNI, two are P5 schools. One is a directional low major. It's not the same thing. There isn't much irony here.

ISU coming up bricks while UNI couldn't miss from NBA range. A number of phantom fouls in that second half. ISU's first game with Burton and with no Naz. The fact it came down to a last second shot should actually encourage all of us. UNI is a good team and a lot of teams in the country would lose (by a much larger margin) with that shooting performance. I would have preferred more emphasis on getting in the paint as UNI had zero answer instead of shooting some of those 3's. That's really my only complaint. @ Cincinnati will be tough.

Completely disagree, this one has been brewing. Same terrible def on switches, no adjustments other than the Nader switch. Very disappointed that Prohm said, "we held them to 35 in the 2nd half". For someone who talked a lot about improving the def to consider UNI scoring 35 in the 2nd half to HOLDING them is not a good sign. UNI looked at what we gave Uthoff and simply did the same thing. Late in the 2nd half that same drive and kick to the guy who'd made 5-5 3s was still wide open. Looked like the same Hoiball of wait for them to start missing and wait for us to wake up on offense. UNI, despite beating UNC, is NOT a good team. Very well coached, but not good. We made them look a lot better than they are and I'll be surprised if they make the tourney. I know it's only one loss but it's on the 3rd game I've watched this year and with everything I've seen I'm not optimistic about this year, especially without Naz.

The greatest team, arguably, in ISU history lost an early season game to a very bad Drake team and went on to the Elite 8. Let's all back away from the ledge people. This team can still do amazing things this year.

Well, to start with, UNI is not a low major. They are a mid-major, and there is a difference. Schools like UAPB and Coppin State are low majors.

When I write about ISU treating UNI like UI treats ISU, I'm not referring to the difference in AD budgets or resources, although those are definitely there. I'm talking about the attitude of the fans..."UNI's no good! HOW DARE WE LOSE TO THEM! It's their Super Bowl! They would finish dead last in the Big 12! Whhhaaaaaaaaa! Aaaaahhhhhhhhh!" and the overall level of butthurt that transpires after a loss to UNI, although to be fair it doesn't seem as prevalent or over the top this season compared to others in seasons past.

So a team that beats two Top 5 teams, including one on a semi-neutral court, still isn't a good team themselves? What's your logic here?

Maybe KU has the right idea by not playing Wichita State. Nothing to gain from the game.

They also lost to Richmond and got blown out by New Mexico. UNI is decent, but they aren't a really good team.

That team had Clint Varley on it so it's not comparable. #depth

I think that's a fair statement, although neither Richmond nor New Mexico are bad teams themselves by any stretch, and both of those games were on the road. I do think UNI has shown early inconsistency; I wouldn't be too surprised to see them lose to Hawai'i in the Diamond Head Classic in a couple of days.

Yeah. Instead ISU can schedule another guaranteed home win against a low major school from the SWAC or MEAC that we can win by 40 points, since those games are much better preparation for the Big 12 slate.

It's a rivalry game. Comparing it those games is like comparing the ISU-Iowa game to ISU vs. Cincinnati. As much as people don't want to believe it or accept it, the intensity level is going to be different playing your in-state rival at home vs. a one off scheduled team on the road. That's why it's so dumb to dwell on that UNI game. Move on ffs (not necessarily directed at you btw awd).

The irony is that ISU fans are using the same completely unintelligent "Super Bowl" ******** argument that Iowa fans use when they lose to Iowa State. I thought we as a fan base were better than that, and could recognize an meaningless talking point when we hear one. Guess not, but doesn't make that talking point any less stupid.

I disagree. If our team learns from the mistakes, the UNI loss could end up being a "good loss." There's quite a bit to be gained from that game.

You won't see me dwelling on it too much. I was more ticked off we just can't seem to take care of the panthers in the last 10 years.

But that is the problem with this team. I don't see where they have ever learned anything from their past losses. They certainly didn't last year.....since they trailed in 5 games in a row by double digit that they were fortunate to pull out in the end. You would have thought somewhere in those 5 games they would have figured out that it is not good to get down double digits to other teams, but no......here they are again this year doing the same thing.

You might think they would have learned not to take any team lightly with their loss to UAB last year.......a game that they lead or were at least tied in for 27 of the 40 minutes. A game that even though ISU shot terribly, the other team shot even worse, yet the other team won. Watching how some of the games against lesser opponents this year started out at least.....it seems the team has not learned anything from that loss either.

Despite all the evidence to the contrary, this team still seems to think it can just show up and win, at least eventually. That is an attitude that will almost guarantee failure.
