This was an embarrassing loss, ISU and their talent shouldn't lose to a team of No. Iowa's caliber. I don't care if they are a tourney team, ISU should handle them. Still, it's one BS game and the guys will bounce back. Crap happens in hoops.

Highly unlikely. They need to win the MVC tourney to have a shot. They only play 3 games against top 100 RPI teams the rest of the season and nobody over 70.
ISU should handle a tourney team (that also owns a win against #1) when Naz is out and Morris is hobbled? When the rotation was short to begin with? That's setting an awfully ridiculous standard.
Very likely UNI gets to play Oklahoma Wednesday at Diamond Head and will also probably get a top 50ish team in the third game in Hawaii. If UNI wins 14 league games they're in.
Maybe one of these years it'll actually happen.
People have said this after every loss since 2012. This team is what it is, and it is not a team that is going to give consistent effort.

Just a couple days ago UNI was coming off 2 beat downs to 2 average teams and were on the bubble at best.. They play the game of their lives and beat ISU and now all of a sudden they are a top 5 seed in March?
Let's wait and see what they do the rest of the season. In order for them to be a top 5 seed, they'll need to win the MVC (both titles) and lose no more than a couple more games.
If Jesperson and Washpun can shoot like that for the remainder of the season.......you will be correct. Just like if Uthoff can go off for 30 in a half every game the rest of the year........Iowa will also be a #5 seed. Is it possible...yes. Probable....no. Case in point Dayton, Notre Dame, Richmond, New Mexico State. Unless you want to argue they are all better than we are?
Yes. We have an all American and a player in McKay that should have dominated this game. Instead we chucked threes and played to their level. Also this team has been ranked in the Top 15 or better the last three years or so. So yes, our standards are high. Tough loss with to a team that played out of their minds. ISU will bounce back....too much talent not to.
I dont understand why we continue to jack up 3's and force quick shots when the last 2 games the complete opposite is what has been working. The reason we got back into the Iowa game is they settled down and ran their offense, used the shot clock, and worked the ball inside.
UNI had no answer for Mckay, Niang, even Burton inside but we jacked up 18 3's. Makes sense.
I can only assume McKay got the ball 12 times in the post the whole game, as he had 12 shots and he shoots pretty much every time he gets the ball down low. As he scored nearly every time that number should have been higher.
Besides Nader shooting the 3 generally, I think one of the worst shots has got to be the 'catch the ball, hesitate, then decide to shoot the 3'. Those never seem to go in. Ever.

First off, we are a team that shoots a large % of three points shots. At present, except for AN and MM our 3 pt% is great. Matt, the current whipping boy here who some say needs to sit more is shooting 43.5% from three, not too shabby. IMO part of the reason we are so effective inside is the talent of Miang to drive and JM's improved post game.
a thing a lot of people miss is that part of the reason for the effectiveness iof the inside game is room to operate. Picture George's trying to drive against a tight zone or McKay having to pass out of a double team. This space is created by our ability to take and make outside shots. Niang's ability to drive is partially due to his outside shooting.
We need to clean some things up but we can be pretty good. If we hit some outside shots, we'll usually win. If not it will be close or we'll lose especially on the road. Not much of a clairvoyant but seems to be that's the way it is.
To repeat from previous posts I made post game, I thought UNI was very well coached (maybe exceptionally) and a lot more talented than we are willing to give them credit for. Washpun is a stud, quick, strong and makes good decisions. The other players are put in position by their offense and fundamentals to take advantage of their skills. Most of their players are limited in some areas or they would be high major. They are put in a position to succeed by their sets.

Oh please. You can do tons to "create space" to operate inside without settling for, and jacking up, outside shots. Picks and rolls, inside screens, a constant motion offense, etc., etc. Of course it takes will and effort. Naw, just keep taking 3's...and if you lose, just say "we had open looks, they just weren't falling."
Some good points but not sure how a pick and roll or inside screen works very well with a packed in defense. You have to make outside shots to open up the defense and you have to make at least 33% of those to win consistently. IMO, our team is not built to pound the ball in and score consistently. Motion works. But you still have to take and make outside shots.
Also helps if the shots are good shots. There were times last night when we shot a bit too early in the possesion.
Yep, and this happens often with ISU. It's playground ball. They literally don't seem to know that there's plenty of time on the clock, and the ball moving elsewhere can give a better look.
