Prohm's recruiting - article

I like how he emphasizes toughness. It translates to defense and rebounding and is probably something that can be overlooked on the AAU circuit and undervalued. Pretty much any guy that makes it in college basketball is tough, but some guys are just special like Kantrail.

Absolutely agree. THE keys to championship caliber teams are tough defense and rebounding. Btw, Horton was one of my all-time favorite players. Guy played with a mental edge and possessed a high basketball IQ. I will never forget him drilling dagger threes from WAY beyond the line in KU's house; man was that fun — talk about sucking the life out of the beaker fans!

I also liked it when he eluded to the opportunity to play for iowa state.....nowhere was it about making a name for yourself. Too many times the players get bigger than the opportunity. ..at all levels and schools.

Prohm needs this years' team to have success and then capitalize on it on the recruiting trail. He did a good job coming in late and filling out last year's class, but he's losing a lot of experience and skill with this year's seniors. Hopefully they finish the year in a way that helps Prohm maintain momentum.

Yes, very little room for error unfortunately in the next class or two.

People that think we lack toughness are going to be getting their wish in a couple seasons Prohm seems to be be building a scrappy underdog type of team in his image. Might be a nice hybrid between Fred and Eustachy type of teams since Prohm is more of an offensive guy but done with grittier players.

I dont think he added much, missed on the much needed big guy...TJ shoulda had a couple ducks lined up instead we got Carter and Ernst and I don't think either of them will finish here.

Good morning sunshine!

Ha you think TJ, Prohm (or any other realistic coaching hires) should have a talented 2015 big man stashed away in June/July ready to enroll in August?

You guys are clueless if you think that's how it works.

Whar Edozie??? Lol. Those 10 minutes available in conference play are going to be the difference between conference champs or conference chumps...amirite?

ha you realistically think Carter and Ernst will ever contribute significantly??? I replied to a comment that said Prohm & TJ filled out the class nicely, I disagree with that. Pardon me for the dose of unfortunate realism.

I do think Carter and Ernst can contribute significantly in years 3-4 for Carter and 3-5 for Ernst. You can't really judge Prohm's recruiting until the 2017 class. What you're talking about is more of a failure of Fred to have some long term talent in Ames.

Ernst was taken under Fred/TJ well before Prohm was even hired, so you sound stupid blaming Prohm for him regardless. As for Carter, he was the best available in August of 2015, and Oregon also wanted him. Are you suggesting that Prohm should have passed on him, when we barely had a 2nd unit to practice against?

The 2016 class is Prohm's but I will even give him a pass on that considering he wasn't hired until June 8th and didn't have a staff until July.

All things considered he did as well as he could have with limited time to recruit and so many spots to fill.

Obviously the jury is still out on Prohm's recruiting, but so far this roster is mostly due to Fred.

I could fill Hilton with a stack of big guys that looked like crap in their freshman year and turned out to be nice players.

What were you looking for? Prohm had very little time to build relationships after being hired on. If you're not a blue blood then top 150 prospects are going to be reluctant to commit to Prohm where they thought they might commit to Hoiberg without first building a relationship with Prohm. Transfers will want to see how things shake out first as well. No bigs who could have contributed this year were going to come here after the coaching change. Not even that Michigan guy.

What annoys me is that you say you don't think Ernst or Carter will finish here without even suggesting why. Developing raw bigs is key to success if you're not a blue blood. We are not a blue blood.
