That was one of the hardest losses I've even taken or seen. This was much worse than 2 years ago. Iowa was up by 6 points and had the ball with under a minute to go and never shot a free throw. That is crazy! Gifted ISU two turnovers and ISU made Iowa pay with clutch shooting. Better team won.

Thanks for the kind words. I thought iowa was good but i was really impressed by them today. Tough loss for iowa but should be a good confidence builder.
Looks like you guys need to feed Uthoff the rock more often. Holy lord, I thought the poor guy was going to need Tommy John surgery after the first half.
That is what is frustrating with him. He is by far the most talented player in the gym, but he doesn't demand the ball or force any shots when Iowa needs him. He will disappear a lot.
Even as an opposing fan, I thought the same thing. If he plays with the attitude he had in the first half, he changes your team. He has the ability to go get his from all over the court, but he has to decide to do it.
I was tremendously impressed with Iowa last night, notwithstanding the ISU comeback. Utoff is NBA talent, period, and other than Monte, maybe have been the only NBA talent on the floor.

I think of lot of ISU weaknesses were exposed last night, some of them from not just this year (clue: mental focus at the beginning of games, eg.). Whereas I think Iowa showed enormous potential going forward. Yes, they're not as talented in the backcourt as they would like, but every team has to figure out how to win with what they've got.
I do think Iowa's in-bounds, late-game meltdown is a little hard to figure out, but we'll take it.

While I'm okay with most of your post, I don't agree with lack of focus to begin this game (not what I witnessed). We were aggressive early stealing the ball and running to the point we were going too fast on offense. Missed layups and too many early turnovers gave the Iowa team a great cushion. We seemed out of sync, not unfocused. Once Uthoff took us to the woodshed we made adjustments second half.
Agreed about Gazzelle. I have no idea how him and Woodbury are players for a Power 5 team.
They are both adequate players, but obviously have flaws too. The problem is that for Iowa to be good, Gessell and Woody need to be better than they are capable of playing.
Man, I really appreciate civil discussion on the game. So disappointed in the crap I've seen and heard since last night from both fan bases. Now, off my high-horse.
You mentioned that Uthoff doesn't demand the ball enough as the leader. Wasn't that the same thing said about White after Marble left? I'm starting to wonder if this is a Fran issue. Fran is coaching his players to be better fundamentally, that's obvious, but doing the mental coaching seems to be a trend.

What I'm saying, is that they are Div 1 players, but should be coming off the bench for spot duty. Not three or four year starters. I applaud their efforts, but the talent just wasn't there for them to be huge contributors.
Gessell seems to be more of a game manager type, although some of his drives up through McKay were impressive.
Woodberry last night was exactly what he is: needs A LOT of space to operate and when that doesn't happen, he might as well just hand the ball to the other team.
I don't remember anybody ever saying that. White was an awesome bball player, but a creator he was not. He was a fantastic athlete and he competed to the best of his abilities every night. Never heard anybody ever say that he should take the last shot or anything like that. He just wasn't that kind of player. But I loved watching him play at the same time. Iowa would have never lost with White last night. He would have gotten a lot of the rebounds that McKay got.
I don't. **** Iowa. They didn't just dribble the ball off their foot for those two end of game TOs. Nothing was gifted. ISU took the ball from them and took the game.

Yep, you nailed it. I can't fault either of their efforts. You could tell during the first game that Woodbury didn't have any spring. That isn't something you can coach. He played hard every game and that is all you can ask. Gessell has more potential but his Bball IQ is too low for a full time point guard. He makes way too many turnovers, but does flash a lot of athletic ability. He also gives it everything he's got every night.
