Chris Ash to Rutgers

Dino Babers to Syracuse is kind of surprising me. Feel like he would have taken a better job than that.

Both Chris ash and Tom Herman both head coaches at FBS schools it is amazing that once an assistant coach leaves iowa state they lead there own program

So they are limbs of the Paul Rhoads coaching tree then?

Congrats Chris Ash....Here's hoping loads of success at Rutgers....I know it will help you that Julie Hermann has been FIRED...............

Sounds like Chris Ash is getting the Rutgers job.

I have read several mentions of him leaving Iowa State on bad terms... I never heard what caused this bad blood. Anyone care to shed some light?

I will be floored if this works- hope I am wrong.
Chris has never impressed me as anything more than a coattail rider. He will need a beyond impressive staff to pull this off. Folks will disagree with me but Rutgers is tougher job than ISU- always has been. That is why what Schiano did is so impressive.

Good Luck

I think he burned bridges with the last staff for various reasons when he left for a lateral move to Wisconsin in 2010 (was made DC in 2011). Know of several accounts of him not exactly being the "family man"/high character kind of guy JP values either.

Congrats to coach ash. "Lateral Move" to Wisconsin and coat tail rider are bad posts. Wisconsin>ISU. Worked his way up for the position he is in. Didn't ride any coat tails. Very quality coach and this is well deserved.

So they are limbs of the Paul Rhoads coaching tree then?

Chris Ash was a Grad Asst 2000-2001, then DB coach 2002-2006 under Mac. Left for San Diego St when Mac was fired came back for Rhoads first yr was DB coach and Recruiting coordinator that yr.

So no not really Rhoads coaching tree for Ash. If there was ever any bad blood it is that Ash wanted the job but we went Chizik. Then when he came back he wanted an increased role after 2009 season but Rhoads couldn't provide it. Bielema at Wiscy offered more room for growth and after 1 yr as Wiscy's DB coach he was promoted to DC in 2011.

Congrats on the new job Chris. Now go do it on your own. Guessing you will be a coordinator again in 5 years.

Pretty typical for someone who wants to be a head coach and thinks he is ready.

This is just wrong. Chris Ash is an innovative mind and a good recruiter. He'll recruit the heck out of that region and land some pretty good players.
