Ames vs. Iowa City poll - DM Juice

You have to know why this poll was posted in the first place. Some news source posted their top college towns in America. Iowa City was ranked #3..Ames was #1. Iowa fans and Iowa City residents became all butthurt and posted how Ames is a **** hole and shouldn't even be on the list and Iowa City should be #1. So now they have to put up a poll between Iowa City and Ames that Iowa City will probably win just to make the butthurt Iowa fans feel better again. Little brother syndrome at its finest there.

Iowa City has a fun night life and is a neat city but to be an actual student there is a pain, having to dodge downtown traffic to get to classes and having city buildings interspersed with campus buildings.

I voted Ames just to represent, but this isn't that easy of an answer. Glad I went to college at ISU, had a GREAT time, but I had some awesome weekends in Iowa City.

How many hawk fans are voting for Iowa City that have never set foot in the city limits?

iowa city is the real **** hole. Old and dirty. The campus sucks. Drunks and homeless littering the ped mall. Coralville is not iowa city but is included because its the newer part of the metro area and helps take some of the stink away. **** iowa.

75% of Iowa fans have never been to Iowa City and 10% of those couldn't find it on a map. Yet they will vote for Iowa City, just because.

Exactly. Of course a school that currently has a 12-0 football team & more fans overall is going to win a poll like this.

I think people have difficulty understanding the difference between "college town" and "party town".

Ames is consistently ranked top 5 in national publications for best college towns for a reason. Iowa City is consistently ranked in top 5 of Playboy's party schools for a reason.

I would ISU to relocate to Des Moines, put a stadium downtown. Would get better recruits and be a bit more lively than Ames.

I didn't click the link, but my personal observations are that Ames seems to revolve around the students a little bit more than IC does. Don't get me wrong, it's certainly not like a Columbus, OH situation, where you have a million people and a large university that's also there, but IC seems to have it's own identity outside of the University that's there because it's bigger.

It obviously could be because I went to school in Ames and the whole town is part of my old stomping grounds, but I just get more of a college town feeling, no matter where I am in Ames.
