Not exactly sure.
Looking to give the mutt a little more room than she currently has. Outside the typical fences what other type of devices seem to work.

The he cabled runners seem to look like a clothes line and look to be another thing to trim around.

Knew a a guy with an invisible fence. Had trouble with it, anybody else have one? Do bush roots or stuff like that mess with it. Is it plugged in all the time? Does rain mess with it?

My parents have an invisible fence for their lab. They love it. To answer your questions, yes it is plugged in all the time and it is not affected by rain. I don't know about bush roots, but my parents have theirs near raspberries and haven't had any issues after 2 years.

So, your wife wants to remodel the kitchen?

If you get an invisible fence look at all your options. We bought a system that warned the dog as it was approaching the fence and gave him a jolt as he tried to cross it. After he crossed it he was free and roamed around at will. When he tried to come back into our yard he couldn't cross it again without a jolt. It didn't take him long to figure out that he could run quickly through the fence with minimal pain. He just couldn't figure out that he could do the same to get back in.

Keep that in mind if you have a strong willful dog.
