Coaching Search Rumors - Consolidated Thread

Fleck is a phenomenal recruiter but hasn't proven anything as a head coach. He's a high risk/high reward hire imo. I think ISU needs a coach that is a proven winner at HC, preferably at more than one program.

Jesus ******...
Western Michigan has lost to Michigan State (played them tough)
Georgia Southern
Ohio State
and the 2 best teams in the MAC. You people realize that those aren't bad losses?
It's way harder to recruit yo wherever the hell western Michigan is at. .

Sounds like Rhoads excuses. Tough schedule. Tough place to recruit.

hmm that's odd.

Teams vs program. Many here slobbered over Rhoads after Year 1.

No way to Fleck. Knowing him, most of this is him leveraging some other school or WMU.

Same deal with the Leipold guy. It would go with the thought process of getting someone 'a year early' that Adam Gray mentioned.

I'm laughing at the few posters who's ammo against Fleck is that he lost to Fritz this year in one game. Guess we can't hire Willie Fritz, because Appalachian State rolled Georgia Southern. Scott Satterfield it is!

But they lost to Arkansas State... better go with Blake Anderson!

But they lost to Toledo... Now we're at Matt Campbell.

And they play Western Michigan today, so we can easily complete this Fleck-Satterfield-Anderson-Campbell never-ending circle.

I think all these guys can coach. I am surprised Matt Wells isn't getting more love. Looking at their commits they recruit Florida, California and Texas. Luke obviously knows ISU.

I would be in favor of Fritz, Monken, Wells, Fleck or Campbell.

Hopefully, they see this as a chance to rebrand a bit, and have a uniform redesign among other small things. We're due for an upgrade.

JP and the search firm are unlikely to release any info, and the former players and donors that are common sources for CF aren't any more likely to have any more info than you or I are at this point. It's early.

Yeah, I get that. So in other words, at this point a thread meant for rumors should be pretty empty. That's the exact opposite of what's happening, as this thread has instead devolved into a coach opinion thread.

Pretty much!

I don't mind, having broken my leg about two weeks ago and recovering from surgery means I will be sitting in a recliner for the next month, mostly. A coaching search gets me through the day, whether the info is good, or total speculation and rambling, it doesn't matter to me!

Well according to many of the Saban or bust tough guys here, a broken leg is NO EXCUSE! We need winners!!

Like those choices. IMO, Fleck is more flash than substance. But who knows? And kind of seems like a Media *****. I was a little troubled by his statement that he sees himself as more of a promoter and motivator and that he does not really get into the X's and O's. IMO, that has been part of our problem. CPR did a bit too much cheerleading and not enough game managing.

IMO, there is plenty to like about all those candidates.

I am extremely happy that JP fired Rhoads early and got ahead of this search a bit. This would be a lot messier for us in about 2 weeks as far as candidates.

You realize you have to make a risky hire to make a good hire right? The good coaches already have jobs. Every candidate has his flaws.

If CPR had hired a real OC instead of promoting Messingham, he would probably still be the coach here.
Those two years with Messingham set us WAY back on the offensive front and hurt recruiting as well.
We can succeed with a Rah Rah head coach, but he needs to recruit both players AND quality assistant coaches.

Guys...what is the single biggest factor that we as ISU fball fans complain about 365 days a year? Recruiting! How many poster on here complain and gripe every time we get that commit over South Dakota etc.. PJ Fleck might be the best recruiter in college football for god sakes and some here think we can do better? Lol. TALENT WINS. Western Michigan had never been to a bowl in its HISTORY. I'd say he's done ok coaching. They were 1-11 and also historically a awful program...all he's done is bring in top 30 recruiting classes at Western Michigan and had winning seasons and a bowl appearance. Just think what he might do at a P5 school with actual facilities and in a major conf.

The more I research Fleck the more I like. I have him and Fritz as my top two and Campbell as number 3. I do think ISU has some good options and is in a position to snag a good coach.
