Lard commitment?

He's not a walk on. Name one instance that has happened with Iowa State basketball

He was a walk-on until we gave him the extra scholarship. Maybe he will earn the 2nd year and maybe he won't.

Just saw this. Good get and hopefully he can qualify and end up in a Cyclone jersey.

Walk on are givin one year schollys all the time. He gets it this year and will pay his way next year unless we have an extra one.

I assume every player on scholarship this year will be on scholarship next year. Maybe that's just me. We'll have to wait and see. No one knows anything at this point. There has been no word if it is a one year scholarship or not.

It's just you.

Prohm was asked if it was a 1 or 2 year scholarship and he never really answered and said they'd re-evaluate the situation in April

Recruiting is vitally important to Prohm's future and he knows it. They were carrying two extra scholarships into this year. We aren't particularly deep, and two of our SG's are coming off of surgery. Why not give Ashton (a very good walk on, but realistically a better fit for a mid major to be on scholarship) a free year of school to help out?

If he's not in the rotation by the end of this year or appears to be on track to be a contributor next year, he will be passed over if we can fill it with a transfer or someone that will contribute if we are able to find a better player.

I think that if they tell Ashton that he's not going to be on scholarship next year he'll transfer to a smaller school where he'll get a scholarship. I just don't see him being on scholarship this season and then staying on the team with no scholarship next season. The only way he'll be on the team next year imo is if he's on scholarship again.

Just my opinion. Not here to argue with tough guys.

He had a scholarship offer at Southern Illinois but decided to walk on at ISU instead. The old staff said they would give him a scholarship for this season if they had 2 open, we had 2 open so Prohm honored that. I would be surprised if Ashton wasn't here next year and I'd be surprised if he was on scholarship next season

That could very well be that he moves on at the end of the season. Next season won't have as many question marks at guard going into the season.

Huh? He came here knowing that he was going to be a walk-on. There was an open scholarship, so we gave it to him. He has to know there's a chance he goes back to being a walk-on next year.

He came here with TJ telling him he'd have a good chance to earn a scholarship. I would assume that would have something to do with him coming here.
