Matt Thomas vs. Chicago State

Not sure I'd feel immense pressure when you're up 40 and that lineup won't ever be on the floor during meaningful minutes anyway. Looked to me like he forced a couple shots late...because he had 9 and 11.

I think you are right, but I also think Cooke was doing the same.

Color me not impressed. He had an OK game against one of the worst teams in college basketball. His shot still isn't what anyone thought it would be coming in. Definitely still in wait and see mode, we should finally know what we have with Matt by the middle of Big 12 season.

11 boards in limited minutes is a great line for a post player, Thomas did it as a bench guard tonight.

Why anyone would bristle at people noticing that is beyond me. Isn't that what you want out of a player?

Maybe the problem is what you thought coming in? There wasn't any pressure to be the next Fred Hoiberg or anything like that....

I was sitting down low on the Cyclones basket and trust me, there was nothing happening on offense when the starters went out ( no movement)..no matter what you are up, with 8 minutes left the coach expects the game to be taken serious by the guys out there and it was up to Hallice and Matt to not make a mockery of the back half of that game. Simeon had no idea what was going on, and Jordan and Brady were lost too....poor Stu was in a panic once in there...

Darn, I must have missed the Matt Thomas vs Colorado thread. Going to search the archives right now.

It will be interesting to see if they are truly one of the worst teams in college Bb as the season wears on. They had some shooters and they fought for everything. I have seen much worse efforts countless times.

Matt could put up 20 pts, 10 boards, and 10 assists against a conference team and still get dissed here.

The sooner you realize that MT isn't Fred or even the second coming of Scott C, the happier you will become. His role is more of a scrappy Jack of all trades type.

Not true at all. I knew he wasn't Hoiberg good, but I thought maybe Jake Sullivan good.

Jesus, give the season a chance....he is 2 games in and went 2-4 from 3 tonight....the rest of his game is improved and he seems to have confidence, I think you will see his shots start to fall and you will be eating your words here as the season goes on...

I've been a hater on Matt mostly because he seemed to not be the shooter we all though he would be come gametime. A few posters have mentioned he wasn't all that great in high school at the three so our expectations were misplaced.

What has happened is Matt turned into a different kind of player quietly under our nose, and that is good basketball player in all categories. His defense seems the most improved this year. Matt is just working hard and doing the little things well and getting some points along the way too. I still think his first shot of the game is the most important for him, as he doesn't seem to shake off missing that first wide open jumper. I hope his contributions continue as the quality of opposition increases.

Is this the Matt Thomas hate thread? If not, just point me to the big group of ****** bags. Because that's probably where the Matt Thomas hate thread is.

I think there were fair expectations being called "The best shooter in his class" by experts that he simply hasn't lived up to. I'm not sure how you can say he's been anything other than wildly mediocre....and personally he lost me when he said he wasn't sure what his role was last year.

Dont know your role?! You have an elite pg and all American post who can pass....make...wide...open...jump..shots. That's all you have to do.

I think we've seen pretty much who he is going to be in his career. Which isn't awful...just not great.

He's been a starter or significant rotation player for a team that has basically been ranked in the top 20 for his entire career.

He doesn't care if he "lost you".

Rarely started and we have been blasted nationally for a weak bench with little depth for a few years now.

An no..he wouldn't care...but I've been right about him since he arrived...soooo..

I love how people want more toughness, hustle, grit, dirty work...just not if it's Matt Thomas that is supplying it. He could easily develop in to a Shane Power type of player for us this year and in to next.

I hope not.

Is it just me or does it seem like Matt gets a silly, ticky tack foul soon after checking in every game? Often a 'Slap a PF on the arm on a layup and-1' variety.

He played a great overall game though. Wish Naz would learn to rebound like that.
