On today's episode of Househunter's: cstrunk Edition...

cstrunk is in the real estate (apartment) market needing to downsize from his current rental house (3/2/2), the lease on which ends December 31st. He has looked at three apartments today, all one bedroom. All three properties offer amenities such as a bark park for his dog, washer/dryer hookups, a community swimming pool/clubhouse, and first floor availability. cstrunk has to consider dog accommodations as well as storage facility options because he has an ATV, 16' trailer, and a few boxes of things that can be stored outside of the apartment.

Apartment #1 is located in a complex that cstrunk used to live at, which is just 2-3 minutes from campus. The complex is a mix of young and old alike, and mostly quiet. The unit is currently being remodeled and will have all black applicances, formica counter-tops, granite fireplace, patio, wood floors in the kitchen/dining/living room areas, and boasts 760 sq. ft of living space. A separate storage unit facility is located next to the complex, but may not be the storage facility that is chosen regardless of apartment selection. Bark park access is close, very close, as in, right by the patio and bedroom window. While conveniently close, cstrunk would be able to hear people entering and exiting the bark park via noisy metal gate and dog/people noise right outside the apartment. Rent is $800 + $20 water + electricity. The application fee will be waived. The unit can be held until December 12th at the latest, which would allow for a relaxed multi-week move, but cost an extra $450-500 for December rent.

Apartment #2 is located just 4-5 minutes from campus. cstrunk knows several tenants at the complex that are in his classes, which would make studying convenient and improve his social life. Added amenities include a 24-hour fitness center (let's be honest here, cstrunk doesn't work out much) and a car care center. The bark park is a short walk away and includes a doggy shower. The interior of the apartment isn't bad, but not nearly as nice as Apartment #1 will be and has a living space of 632 sq. ft. A small patio is present. Rent is $790 + $20 sewer + electricity. The application and administrative fee ($170) is applied towards the first month's rent. Off-site storage will be needed. This unit is available for move in on December 26th which would give cstrunk a few days to move.

Apartment #3 is located about 10 minutes from campus. The 706 sq. ft. unit looks nice on the outside but more dated on the inside than Apartment #2. Rent is $854 + $30 water + $20 pet monthly fee. An on-site single car garage space is available for $75/mo., and no off-site storage would be necessary. $150 application fee. Can you tell cstrunk is getting tired of typing this stuff yet? This unit has no patio, only a set of Juliet Doors. The bark park is a couple minute walk across the complex. There is also a 24-hour fitness center. cstrunk doesn't remember the exact move-in date, but thinks it was December 18th.

Each complex has a $2-300 pet deposit and rent deposit from $2-400. Off-site storage facility use will likely range around $80-120.

Which apartment do you think cstrunk should choose? Stay tuned!

Car care center like a place to change oil & wash your car? I'd lean towards 1 or 2, but I'm not very finicky about how nice (modern) my place looks. Give me a roof that don't leak, AC, a furnace that works I'm pretty much ok. Enjoy which ever one you pick. If the car care thing lets you change oil and stuff you could save some extra money that way if you don't mind doing that type of stuff yourself.

cstrunk, I think 2 sounds best. Being close to campus + being the cheapest + quieter for random time of day naps.

I think 2 sounds the best because he can use the car care center for an LS swap on whatever he's driving, because an LS swap is always the answer.

(well, I mean, not really, but it seems to be)

wait, why do you need off site storage for 2 but not the others?

and the car thing is nice too, if you think it would get used. I mostly listed things I would pay for vs. consider a nice bonus.

I've actually never seen My Fair Lady. I've probably seen more musicals than I can even recall, but My Fair Lady was never one of them.

me neither. I haven't seen many musicals, which is odd, considering.

haven't seen:
My Fair Lady
Mary Poppins
Oklahoma
Guys & Dolls
Hello Dolly
that State Fair one
Annie
The King & I

it may be shorter to say the ones I have.

Wizard of Oz
Carousel
Kiss Me Kate
Wicked
movie version of Phantom of the Opera
95% of Sound of Music but never fully start to finish.
