Dear America - Iowa Doesn't Care What You Think

I'm not sure, I think it is close but I would agree that making the playoff is a win in itself. I think both of your answers make sense. Even though the Rose is on an equal plane with the Peach now in the New Year's Six, it's still better in most fans' eyes and probably even moreso for a B1G or Pac-12 fan.

I would say all of the publicity iowa would receive for making the playoff, even if losing right away, would easily outweigh a victory in the Peach bowl, and probably even the Rose bowl. Peach Bowls come and go, much easier to get back to that game. But to be one of the 4 teams invited to the playoffs would be quite the honor. In the weeks preceding the games, think of all the commercial time you would receive. All the commentators talking about it every week. And probably during every bowl single game the teams will get mentioned. I doubt during every bowl game the commentators will talk much about the Peach bowl.

Your are not sure what's hard to follow? Let me spell it out for you. We know for a fact who Stanford and Florida have left on their schedules, and they each have games against top 25 teams. iowa doesn't.

You are adding in a hypothetical of Iowa making it to the big 10 championship, undefeated at that point, and playing either OSU or MSU. Who knows if Iowa will make it and who they will play. Yes, something very crazy would have to happen, but we've seen iowa skid to poor finishes before. And all it takes is a season ending injury to Beathard for their season to be done. They can band aid any other injury except to him and still win out in the regular season.

Who knows if they will be undefeated. Iowa could lose 2 games and still play in the conference championship, and if so, doesn't matter if they win or not, nobody would be impressed enough to let a 2 loss iowa team into the CFB Playoff. OSU/MSU could lose 2-3 games still and play iowa depending on how things shake out. If iowa were to face a 2 loss team in the championship game, again, it may not matter if they win or not, because facing a 2 loss team might not sway the voters.

Only an undefeated iowa team, after the conference championship, where they play another team ranked in the top 10 at the time of the game, will convince me they are a top 10 team.

You know what the word "chance" means right? Read through the quotes above again and think really, really hard, but don't post quite yet, think about it once more and then get back to me.

I can tell that most of my points go over your head. That's ok, you are an iowa fan, what should I expect.

I can tell you didn't go through with the thinking about it three times suggestion I had. Let me help once again.

Your original statement, underlined section is key:

"they do have to play some legit teams the rest of the season, so they have the chance to prove me wrong. Unlike Iowa."

Followed by me asking:

"So if Iowa plays tOSU or MSU in the B10 Championship Game, they still wouldn't have a chance to impress you?"

You respond:

"Sure, 6 weeks from now, if Iowa runs the table and beats either said team, they will get some of the respect they deserve"

Again I will ask, what is so hard about this for you?

Why are you being such a condescending p**ck because a guy said "season" in reference to "regular season"? I didn't think you were that kind of troll.

Cuz its the introwebz, duh. Seriously, I think we both know what simply saying, "oh, I was talking about the regular season" would have ended it. But instead he doubled down. Better question, why wouldn't the potential B10 Championship Game be taken into account when talking about impressing before playoff selection? Seems like an odd qualifier to me, but I digress.

Today's latest in the saga of Jon Miller/Iowa fans not caring what America thinks

@HawkeyeNation: I am sure the committee will forgive Baylor's struggling against a below .500 Kansas State team. #explosive

Baylor won by 7 on the road.

Iowa is a 7 point favorite on the road at Indiana this Saturday.

What would JM's excuse be?

Dear America: Please look at us. Please!

So to be clear, Baylor winning on the road by 7 at unranked sub .500 KSU is impressive but Iowa winning on the road at #21 Northwestern by 30 isn't. Or maybe Baylor's win isn't impressive. Curious to get your take on that.

You seem to be reading a lot of words that I did not write. In fact, I wrote none of what you "clarified' for me, and all I posted about was Jon Miller's potential hypocrisy coming in less than 48 hours.

Why pick on Baylor? As an Iowa fan shouldn't OSU's 7 point wins over NIU and Indiana have you pizzed?

Im wondering what your take is on the not-often-talked-about-by-Hawk-fans-for-obvious-reasons win Iowa squeezed out in the final couple of minutes - at home - against a very bad Illinois team. Is that comparable to Baylor winning by 7 on the road with a true freshman qb making his first start or no?

Eh... probably go with playoff loss in that case. What about you?

I'd take the playoff loss in a heartbeat. Being in the playoff is better than any bowl game IMO. Having a chance to compete for a national title is so much better than an exhibition bowl game that no one will remember except for the two fan bases.

Who said Iowa's win at NW wasn't impressive? To me, that's their primary win (Wisc and Pitt haven't beaten a winning team yet).

Baylor was also up 21 with 9 mins to go.

Give me the Rose Bowl-holy grail of things to check off list.
