I don't think you can turn down the first job. Although it sounds inviting, there is no absolute guarantee that it will be there in the Spring. The company's situation could change or the renovations could cause further delays.

You're actually very lucky. You are being granted a several months long trial at the first job. You may end up liking that one a lot and decide not to leave when the second job comes up.

I was thinking about Nick's situation today and this is what I came up with also. Try this job it could be better than you thought, maybe even get a pay bump to keep you from switching. He's in a good spot and I hope it goes good for him.
