Different Team with Lanning

What I think most people are overlooking is the fact that Lanning is built for this offense. He knows when to hand the ball off and when to keep it. He knows a good pass from a bad one. He just plays the game one snap at a time. He looks like a natural out there. There's a huge gap between him and Sam. Huge.

I still think we walk out of Lubbock with a win if Lanning starts. We could have played zone read all day and ran for 400 yards.

I'd be impressed if those stops happened when the game was meaningful. The fact Baylor was able to score 35 points in the first half, indicates their offensive players lost their focus and intensity at half. For the same reason, I temper my expectations of Lanning.
Part of the reason BU scored 35, might be the 3 first half TOs. We fumble one away, and then SBR throws 2 more ints for good measure. I, too, am tempering my expectations with Lanning but, can you imagine if we play a 1st half with more ball control minus the TOs (like we did, for the most part, in the 2nd half)? This game MAY have been a little more competitive - especially given the wet conditions.

One thing people, need to understand about Lanninngisnhe runs the QB option read far better than Sam ever could..he ran it at Ankeny and shredded teams doing it. For the love of God why do we line up in shotgun on the 1 yd line with the RB to the side of the QB? And we run with Thomas. I get he's bigger but he's also slower than Warren. U need a quick hitting RB at the goal line and a RB to th side of the QB has no momentum heading to the goal line...makes no sense. How can FBS coaches not see this?

I support Lanning because he takes chances and let's our superior wide receivers make plays. I think Richardson was getting too safety-minded (probably because the coaches are drilling "no turnovers" in the heads of all players).

However, I'm not too sure that Lanning is that much superior to Richardson. Lanning has a temporary advantage because defenses don't have "a book" on him. Further, Lanning has less pressure coming off the bench. When the coaches officially turn over the job to him, the pressure gets amped up.

It is good to see what the offense can do. Now all they have to do is do it more often.

Watching the 2 throw, it's a no brainer. Joel has more zip and looks more confident throwing. Sam was a disaster today.

Duh to this thread.. Didnt need to today to know that. Hes a winner, and has a Big12 body. As of today has a winner mentality anyway.

only been said every day since week 1.

We lulled Baylor to sleep with their dominance the same way MSU did in the bowl last year. I think even if Lannign plays great all game vs TCU, Baylor and OU we probably still lose them all, it's the other 9 games you really have to wonder. It has been quite a night and day difference when they've let him play.

This is the offense that should have started the game. ISU needs to be like Iowa or KSU, not Baylor. They have a couple decent RBs, a serviceable OL, and some good WRs. Let's loose the WR screens until teams are not in press coverage anyway, use the TEs over the middle (like Iowa has a hayday with) and eat up to clock.

It would be a good idea to put some stickem on Tribune's hands too. There were a ton of opportunities to actually be in this game, and ISU fumbled and dropped a lot of them.

I quite honestly think it's a superior team totally overlooking an ISU team once it had a huge lead. Play lanning, for sure, but I don't think it's going to make much difference. I think the staff will screw him up just like everyone else

I think one advantage that Lanning has is that he didn't go through the turn over situations of Jantz and Brarnett like Sam did. I think the coaches really instilled into Sam's head to not turn it over, which causes him to double think when throwing, and leads to less risks.

It's unfortunate because I believe that Sam had the tools to be a good quarterback, but playing two season injured and poor coaching did him in. I think since Lanning has seen stability at quarterback during his time on the team, that he will go out there and play ball and worry less about some of the things that Sam has had to do.

I don't like to play "what-if" but we also missed 2-3 easy INT opportunities in the 1st half.

Team played with grit and heart today after the slow start and I can't wait to see what a NEW coaching staff can do with the existing pieces.

Very happy with what I saw today. The 2 TD's in the corner were fabulously placed and throws most FBS QB's make every week. Very refreshing. He did have a few so-so throws, the Ryen pass that was reviewed and the warren one come to mind. Fortunately our receivers really helped him out today.

The difference with SBR is the majority of his bad passes are not even remotely catch-able.

Feeling cautiously optimistic.

It just shows how an offense that has even a little bit of life can really help a defense. ISU won the Time of Possession today by dominating it in the 2nd half. You beat a team like Baylor, Tech, TCU, etc. by keeping their offense off the field, and allowing your defense to catch its breath. ISU had the ball almost double the amount of time Baylor had it in the 2nd half........that was huge.

I'll tell you this, if I make the trip this year and Rhoads has the nerve to start Richardson, I will buy a front row seat behind the sideline and boo Rhoads as he comes to the sideline from the locker room, boo him every third down they don't convert, boo and heckle him the entire 4th quarter if they are trailing big, and boo him as he leaves the field.

I have thought for a while they have been building up to this. They didn't want to start Joel until after this 3 game gauntlet is over. Now let Joel start at home in what once was a very winnable game vs tejas.
