Dear America - Iowa Doesn't Care What You Think

So Iowa does not care what you think, but here's a bunch of reasons why you should think more highly of Iowa.

JON MILLER FOLKS!

The "little brother" syndrome is certainly strong with the Iowa posters in this thread. What does a little brother do? Looks to his big brother for acceptance and validation. How is that not what the Hok posters here are doing? What other reason can there be to be on a rival's site? How is that not what Miller's article was about? Yet......just watch......they will deny this. Laughable.

'-Be kind. That is something you will never regret. You will never say to yourself when you are old "I wish I was not good to that person".'

Sagarin SOS Rankings (used this SOS as we all know how much Cyclone Fanatics love them some Jeff Sagarin):

Michigan: 30th
Iowa: 36th

Since you like Sagarin, let's take a look at his rankings of the teams on Iowa's schedule. This is who they've played so far:

21
35
45
57
71
72
179

With these still to go:

40
67
77
81
105

Considering there are 65 Power Five schools, 7 of Iowa's 12 opponents are considered less than Power Five quality (yes, this includes Iowa State). Again, more than half of the teams on their schedule cannot crack the top 65.

There's zero teams in the top 20 and just one that would even be "receiving votes" if this were a human poll.

Just like I can't argue this Iowa State team is any good, Iowa fans shouldn't argue this schedule is any good. But that didn't stop Jon Miller from trying.

If you think hawk fans are defensive now, wait another month when their SOS plummets. Even if you don't agree that their schedule gets Charmin soft, you have to admit that the media will be hammering these numbers to death in an effort to slide a more media friendly second SEC team, a 1 loss Florida St or even a 1 loss b1G team in the playoff ahead of them.

Step 1 - Argue UI/Michigan SOS to date is not practically the same.
Step 2 - See where according to well respected source, often used on this site, they are.
Step 3 - Post additional rankings from source (that was previously used against you) to show how said SOS will change in the future, although nobody has argued said SOS will take a dive from here on out and if anything, will readily admit it.

Solid work.

No one can say with a straight face that Iowa has played any team close to as good as Utah or Michigan State and UM has played both

The bolded is also pretty funny considering the topic we are posting in and the Jon Miller manifesto linked in the OP

Again with moving the goalposts... Don't recall saying Iowa has played teams like Utah or MSU (although one could argue MSU isn't exactly lighting the world on fire) but for some crazy reason, Sagrain has UM at 30 and UI a pretty damn close 36 in SOS. Argue it any way you like, but it will still currently be 30/36 based on the most utilized college football SOS ranking reference on the site.

Lastly, and not sure if this is even worth asking you, but could you please give me an idea how the bolded is somehow funny in lieu of the Miller post/OP? Did you even read it? Hell, I'll be nice and help you by posting a direct quote from the article. You might want to pay special attention to the first sentence.

"Look, we get that Iowa’s schedule the rest of the way is ‘manageable’, or ‘fortuitous’, or ‘soft’. The thing is, Iowa didn’t have one ounce of input on the next five teams on its schedule. The Big Ten computers spit that out. It came up with Maryland and Indiana as Iowa’s Eastern Division crossovers. Iowa is not to blame for Minnesota’s return to being Minnesota. Iowa is not to blame for Purdue continuing to flat out stink."

If you would have even bothered to read the article (like you tried to pass off as having done), you would have realized it wasn't an article trying highlight the remaining teams as great, but an article with the purpose of giving a little more context as to why some of the previous victories might be a little better than originally thought (and might have a reason to do with that #36 SOS).

Again, solid work.

I'm just glad you posted Sagarin in response so I could showcase the 7 teams on Iowa's schedule that wouldn't be considered Power Five quality according to those same rankings. That's really the crux of this disagreement and this thread entirely: Iowa's schedule is abysmal for a Power Five program.

If Iowa does manage to go 12-0 or even 13-0, their schedule will hold them back. It doesn't matter that "the Big Ten computers spit that out" or Minnesota or Purdue are playing B1G football. But I can rest assured knowing that Jon Miller will do whatever he can to rage against the media narrative of Iowa's schedule. For pure entertainment value, part of me hopes Iowa goes 13-0 and gets left out of the CFP - especially behind a couple one-loss teams - so I can see what the Miller types put out then.

Another solid rebuttal. Don't mention either 2 of the points being discussed (current SOS and your failure point what was "funny" or as you implied, ironic, about the article) but instead focus on what isn't being debated by anyone, which is that Iowa's SOS will fall with the remaining games of the schedule. Seriously, what is it with the internet and people being unable to type the phrase "I was wrong, nevermind".

I don't think Iowa is one of the best 4 teams in the county. I don't think Iowa will be undefeated going into the B10 Championship game (although I think the do make it). I don't think they will defeat OSU in the game. If the stars align and someone Iowa makes it 13-0, I would be beyond ecstatic. If they get left out of the playoff it would hurt for a while, then I would remember they are 13-0 and I will be in Pasadena for the first time in my life. I think I will make it. So lets both keep hoping Iowa is 13-0.

So they are behind Iowa City West, Iowa City High, Solon, and Clear Creek Amana or Lone Tree?
