It's all about Big 12 level players...

It doesn't matter how good a coach you are if you just don't have enough players that are physically gifted enough to compete at the Big 12 level. The bottom line is that too many of our players don't belong at this level. Coaching certainly does matter - look at Michigan and Florida this year - but I really doubt that Jim Harbaugh would be undefeated with these players.

So it's all about recruitment failure. And, maybe there are issues with developing those players too. Some coaches - Bill Snyder, maybe Jerry Kill - can pick out players with potential and then develop them into a higher level player. I'd like to see an analysis of how many of our players had other SERIOUS Power 5 offers. Yes, there are some - Campo, Lazard, etc - but they are not found up and down the roster.

If there is a coaching change, the next coach will have to be a miracle level recruiter who hires great coaches to work under him, and then let's those coaches do their jobs. But, without better players, it won't improve.

We could run a system that doesn't require us to have elite talent. The triple option often gets credit for being based more on discipline and fundamentals than talent.

Find a coach that can coach those things (Fritz) and we could win despite the talent gap.

We have enough talent to compete with half the conference. It is not like many Big 12 teams are loaded with top notch talent. Teams like KSU, OSU and WV have a number of weaknesses in their lineups too.

Seriously. Our talent level is enough to get us far more wins than we've achieved over the past 3 years. Especially this year. We don't have elite talent at most positions. But we have perfectly acceptable FBS level talent that a good coach would be able to take to bowling.

We currently run the system that you're talking about, the Spread is designed to put the emphasis on coaching and playcalling, thus negating the talent gap. The spread offense is the scapegoat, its not the problem. We get a coach who tailors his system to his players and we'll be fine (see the spread offense that K State runs).

I agree except you need a stud QB.

I agree Like Trevone Boykin.........We have not had a good college qb since at least Austin Arnaud and maybe since Bret Meyer.....

Rhoads has been a Total and Epic Recruiting FAILure....Until Recruiting gets better and we more Big XII talent we will continue to be a Bottom Ender....

Rhoads Must GOOOooooooooooo

The B12 defensive players are very fast and aggressive. Not sure any kitchen sink offense will work.

What do we do on defense? 12 men?

Is that why there are so few in the NFL? The Big 12 puts their best athletes on offense.

Oklahoma may be an exception along with past TCU teams and KSU.

KSU hasnt really been able to replicate their defensive talent of the 90s and early 2000's tho

Jim Harbaugh isn't undefeated at Michigan...that said he would've beaten Iowa and Toledo with our players and be 4-1 right now. We'd have a shot at KSU and one other team and at least have a chance at a bowl.

Coaching + Development can close the gap with a lack of talent. I agree with you that we need more talent but this roster is a bowl team with better leadership.

Not that simple. Otherwise, how do you explain Texas getting killed one week at TCU and then beating OU the next?

There is enough talent on this team to win. There was enough talent on last year's team to win. Those who say you need X amount of talent are making excuses for the program.

I honestly don't think Rhoads is all that bad of a coach. I mean, no coach has or ever will be successful here. I think he has pulled in some decent talent but the problem is developing young guys and keeping guys healthy.

We have done a good job developing WRs, LBs and DBs, but o-line, d-line and QB have been our weak spots. That's why I like the 3-4. And I like grabbing JUCO kids for the d-line. We return a lot on defense next year so development will be crucial.
