MLB: 2015 Minnesota Twins thread

Simplest explanation is the Twins will play home tiebreaker games in every scenario except a two way tie with the Angels.

Tie with Houston or 3 way tie, the games are at Target Field.

Never mind. 112 was right.

After weeks of saying one thing (Jayson Stark ESPN, Twins beat writers), MLB clarified everything today:

3-way tie, the Twins will go to Houston. Winner hosts LAA.

2-way tie, the Houston comes to Minnesota.

Try not to have your head explode.

Can't believe they were misinformed so long, I got that info from the MLB website well over a week ago. It's not something new the front office talked about just today.

Perkins another hit. 3-1 royals.

If there was one player who ruined the second half its perkins. I know it's a team game but he totally bombed. Of course Houston and LAA are both winning.

Because why the hell not.

Seriously, has Perkins gotten anyone out in the 2nd half?
 
Well, fellas, that's all she wrote. Very surprising season so I'm trying not to feel too disappointed. I'm already looking forward to next year.
 
Great season; so many reasons to be optimistic! Sano is going to be a special, special player.

-get some decent pitching
 
Great thread and enjoyed the discussion with fellow fans. I suppose in a bit we should lay this thread to rest and start the off-season thread and HOPE we're discussing picking up an ace pitcher. When's the last time Minnesota had a true ace? Johan Santana?


Rough end to the year, but we were relevant to the final weekend, something I didn't expect.
 
The Twins got good pitching that didn't pan out. Hughes and Santana were both name-brand pick ups so at least they are trying.

Almost everyone is a let-down compared to 2004-2006 Santana, but yes, I'd say he was the last true ace. Liriano could have become one if the coaches would have altered their approach with him (look at how he's thrived since arriving in Pittsburgh).

Bull ****. The Twins overpaid for a couple pitchers who are mediocre at best. Hughes and Santana have career ERAs of 4.33 and 4.16, respectively, both of which are below the average ERA for starting pitchers this season. Those two guys would be lucky to make the playoff rotation for any of the contending teams this year.

Santana has had an ERA over 4 once in the last six years. He's a fine piece right now.

And just because I like to poke the bear...if we're talking career ERA as a valid metric, I submit an even higher one.

The Twins five best major league ready starters in the organization right now are Santana, Duffey, Berrios, May, and Gibson.

Rack em up however you want, there likely isn't a true ace in the group.

It would be a definite improvement over what they ran out there this year, and shouldn't really be a negative vs. league average.

I'll be pretty disappointed if that isn't at least 4/5ths of the opening day rotation.

I'm also assuming a significant injury to Hughes will be announced in the offseason.

Comparing career ERAs when one pitcher has 11 seasons and the other only has 3, that's what's pretty deceptive.

I'll give you that Santana's last few years have been better than his first, but will still contend that:

A) even his best is fairly pedestrian

B) he's shown plenty of signs of decline over the past few years...increasing ERA, decreasing K/W, still giving up a lot of homeruns, etc.

He's not dog meat, but he's certainly not staff ace material. We don't need another Santana or Hughes or Carl Pavano or Livan Hernandez; we need a legitimate #1 or #2.
