Neither team has anything they do particularly well. I think ISU can score on Iowa, and I think Iowa can score on ISU. I'll take Iowa, but ISU shouldn't be counted out.

Yeah, and we could rarely take any advantage of all those short fields we were given.
Once again this year, I'm fearful that we'll have the best WR group in the Big 12 possibly, but won't be able to use them because 1) Sam is too afraid to throw it downfield... 2) Mangino never seems to call plays for deep passes.
If we have no running game again this year, and we also refuse to throw it deep, then we become extremely easy to defend, just like a year ago. Teams will just crowd the line with all 11 defenders because they know we won't throw it deep on them.
And defensively, it appears we're sticking with our DB's playing way off the line again. Several times during the game last night we had a DB 15 yds off the line, and of course UNI just did a quick out to the WR for an easy 8-10 yd gain.
I think our DB's are talented enough this year to let them play more press coverage, or at least within 10 yds of the line of scrimmage.
I saw none of their game so not sure what to expect. Turned on radio on way to Ames, early in game, heard their announcers compare quarterback to Bret Favre, turned off radio.
Iowa looked no more impressive than us. I took away more that Illinois State and UNI both have a lot of work to do. It's a safe bet next weeks game will be close.
I agree with this. We need to throw some bombs and use Lazard, Bundrage, Daley, as decoys to clear a wide path for WRs. It seems like Sam is threading needles or throwing into a crowd.

We still never seem to have any WR's open. Usually they are covered pretty well and have to make a good catch for a completion. I don't know if it's a poorly designed offense or the WR's don't run crisp routes, but we very rarely have anyone running open.
One time Sam did have an open guy, and Sam double clutched it before he threw it and it gave the UNI defender just enough time to get there and knock it away. Sam has to be more decisive and trust himself.
I agree the UNI defense wasn't good, but we did leave 13 more points on the field with the fumble into the pylon and missed FGs.
Neither team looked explosive, but both played efficiently. Iowa looked to do it through most of the game, ISU started slow but took control late. I don't foresee anything flashy happening next weekend, just a good ol' fashioned football rivalry with the good guys on top.

After the encouraging win against a FCS opponent I still feel like the Asian grounds keepers in Major League.
Against an average FCS DL the OL gave SR adequate time to throw, but he was often scrambling around like his head was cut off. Against Iowa SR will have even less time.
Given enough time to set his feet SR is good at throwing accurate passes and making good decisions but when forced to move both go down hill.
I predict that we'll see who is the backup because SR will be running around like the chicken in Rocky and either get hit hard enough to get taken out of the game or become ineffective.

Iowa looked really good on Saturday. Iowa St looked okay. I have gone back and watched ISU replay a few times and I beleive our offense is much more based on intricite timing and Iowa is mor smash and I think that could explain why Iowas offense seems much more polished.
The oline didnt look as bad the second time around for ISU but I did notice the timing of blocks and passes was just off a bit. I think if we can clean up the timing things could improve next week.
If we hit a few 3 and outs early on though I do expect Iowa to win by 10.
If we can sustain some drive early and got an early lead I could see ISU winning by 10.
