Any dog experts here?

for the record I have an old Boxer who has been the perfect dog. Lady just turned 11 and is still very patient. Our 4 year boy just loves him to death, hugs, and lays on all the time. She doesn't bark unless someone comes to the door. My 9 year old walks her and has no problem passing a psycho ankle biter or 100+ lbs German Shepard. But she has has a thyroid problem now which is just hair loss spots and etc. and she likes peanut butter.

I think just about any breed except a highly motivated, highly intelligent breed (thinking sheltie or similar - a herding dog) would be fine.
Mostly dogs will adapt to their environment and learn how their home environment is structured and naturally adjust to the schedules of their owners. What they are NOT comfortable with is change, so expect a period of adjustment.
I had a Cocker Spaniel that stayed most days free in the home for 9 hours. I started by coming home at lunch and letting her out - did that for about 3 weeks then tried all day - and she was fine. She was great except one time, probably bored, she decided to start pulling the yarn pieces out of the living room carpeting. Ended up with a bare spot of backing about the size of a softball.
Our current dog - a Maltese had never got left alone more than about 4-6 hours. I had to spend the day last week at the hospital with a family member, so she was here 9 hours on her own. No problem.
I do think maybe a female might have better "holding" power than a male, but that might just be something that's my thought and not based on fact.

Have had German short hairs all my life, 2 currently and they hang out in our house during the day when we are at work with no issues
