Driving in Ames

That would explain a lot. I never knew that, but traffic lights are a huge part of the problem. And also the duff train tracks. Horrible decision not to turn that into an overpass when it was out there.
Taking the kid to school in Chicago tomorrow. Ames is a cake walk compared to the **** show that is Chicago traffic.
I relax when I go to Chicago. You know what everyone is going to do . . . surge for the open spot in front of you. In Iowa, I'm never sure what someone is going to do. The indecision is amazing . . . and dangerous.
Some of that but there is also really bad business driveways/street areas:
A left into Taco Johns going West
A left out of Arbys/Taco Bell going North
A left out of Cy's Locker Room/Verizon going South (damned near impossible)
A left out of George White's frontage road to get to intersection
I wonder what would happen if you put a few traffic circles along Duff there. It might be too busy of a road though.
First, let's see if we can handle the three round-abouts that are being built on University Drive south of US 30.

Population increased as students are back and moving in. And they're there to learn....to drive.

Seems like it should be easy to secure an easement for access off the drive that comes into Best Buy/BAM into the Pancheros/Cold Stone development, then you could just shoot over to the traffic signal to get out. Maybe the businesses don't care though as long as they are still doing good business, the city should have required that when it was developed.
I had to take my daughter down by Towers/softball complex from north Ames. I feel like I should win some sort of award for making it back home alive. I lived dangerously and drove right through campus there and back. I have to pick her back up in a few minutes and am trying to think of the most round-about way to get there to avoid campus/residence halls/sororities.
I can't speak that much for Chicago, (I've driven there a few times, not much), but I do know that's the case for the SoCal freeways...I was kind of nervous heading into the first time, but by the end of my 2 weeks there for business, I preferred it. Everyone is predictable. Landed in CR, and immediately wanted to punch people in the throat for doing stupid **** on 380 on my way home.
They're all over hell here in Rochester and people don't have a clue how to handle them.
These last two days have been the worst I've ever seen personally. I've been in Ames the whole Summer and it's about the first time I ventured down Lincoln Way until the Duff intersection. Basically non stop construction the whole time from the University. Heard the guy behind me tires squeeling trying not to hit me today. Just horrible.
