Joe Wieskamp 2018

Wieskamp did well at the atlanta super soph camp. he will likely be a top 100 type kid. however 2018 is a long way and its hard to day how he will develop let alone if the current iowa staff will even be there. he seemed open to ISU when offered.

And Woodbury, was named the outstanding player of some big camp in Virginia, he went from projecting as a superstar to good role player

Kids change so much from middle school to high school.. Some continue to develop, some kids who looked like they had no business being in sports in middle school shine by their senior year.

This kid looks really good and he committed to ISU I would be excited, but I would also temper my expectations a bit. Lets see what he develops into.

Your definition of a good role player is different than mine.

Re: Wieskamp to Iowa

Your butt certainly has less in it now.

I'm not butthurt, I'm just not convinced yet that Wieskamp is a huge miss for us, and I doubt that we would have offered yet if Fred hadn't left yet. I could be wrong, but I'm not sure he fits the profile of what has worked well for us under Fred.

Time will tell.

If I need a guy to help remove someone's eyes Woodbury is filling that role.

Anything basketball related? I will probably find someone else to fill that role.

My question on him is why is he listed as a SF at 6'4"?

Clearly he may grow more, so I'm not saying he won't hit 6'6" or whatever, but a 6'4" forward ranked #18 in the country doesn't add up.

How are his handles? Can he shoot? Seems like he would be listed as SG if he were a top 50 player with his measurables.

They have him listed as that because on his team, he is going to be a forward, if not even a post player. His HS coach had said that the other guys on the team are probably going to be 6', or less. When he gets to school, yes, he will definitely be a SG, or SF, unless he gets to 6'7 or more, which is doubtful.

LOL< you are the definition of butthurt. Fred offered him a scholly and you are just too dumb to grasp that apparently.

Did the Curry/Korver 3pt drill with @JWieskamp21 after a hard workout got 79/100. Today he got 91/100 with 39 made in a row as a high. #work

But we talkin' bout practice, man.
Not a game. Not a game. Not a game. Practice.

Take what you like out of the Tweet

Sounds like he'll have 8 years of bad coaching under his belt before his eligibility is up assuming and hoping that Fran is there through 2022

Also, Im genuinely curious. After reading through your comments, a lot of you seem to feel that Fran is on the hot seat, or close to it. I dont get it. Why do you feel that way? Ever single season under Fran has been an improvement. Literally. Yes, a couple early exits from the B1G tournament sucks, but each year has been a steady improvement, including the recruiting classes, national exposure, and the fan base. This year we are brining in 5 guys, (3 from Chi, 1 from Oak Hill, and 1 from Tyler JUCO) who are all very talented. Also, the McC boys and Joe W. are in the pipeline. I know we havnt risen as fast as you, but to think Fran is on any kind of hot seat is crazy. Not looking to flame or anything, im just honestly curious, cause I dont see it. Again, have their been frustrations? Sure, but what program doesnt go through that? Thanks

He'll play a billion more games with his AAU team at his correct position, than his HS team. Do you honestly think his HS coach would jeopardize his development like that? He may play the 4 or 5 on paper, but its obvious he is the go to guy at every position, no matter where at on the court.

Careful, khawk. Many here claim that our incoming class is something comparable to what Simpson College will be bringing in.

So talented it's the worst recruiting class in the B1G and he has the worst recruiting classes back to back years in the conference?

FWIW I don't think Fran is on the hot seat at all and would like him to coach in IC for as long as possible. As long as he keeps Iowa near the bubble he'll get a statue put up outside Carver.

I don't think many people think Fran is actually on the hot seat. That just isn't realistic. I don't think he'll be signing a lifetime contract this year, but he's solidified his job the past two seasons.

Handles are solid, but nothing special. He can definitely shoot & that's one of his strongest spots. Saw in an article where he talked about the commitment that he plans to play both SG & SF in college.

Fran is not on the hot seat.. But the perception is that any top 150 recruits he does get all are within Iowa's borders. Not to mention the fact ISU and Iowa seem to always lose the true national recruits from Iowa to other schools.

This was a good get for Iowa based on current projections.

If it makes you feel better I would put it more on the Drake level. Although, they got Reyvontae Rice at one point so I'd have to put their recruiting above Iowa's at this point.

Well I think we can agree last year's recruiting class was a complete bust and 2015 is worse on paper. One of them will end up being a diamond in the rough though (probably Moss)

It is absolutely talented compared to what Iowa is used to bringing in. I dont think you realize how horrible Iowa was not only on the court, but on the recruiting trail, under Lickliter. That dude didnt like recruiting, and he even admitted it. So its taken Fran a while to get Iowa's name out there, past the state of Iowa. I think we are all just excited that we are finally getting some good Chicago kids again. And this year, we are in on some real good ones. Do I think we'll get all of them? Absolutely not, however, first step is getting your foot in the door, which is what Fran is doing.
