TJ to coach Hoiberg after he wakes up from surgery

" Hey Fred while you were sleeping I offered 3 kids with no other D1 offers who you probably would not have offered but I thought I would just put my career in jeopardy cause I felt like it. Good news is all 3 committed and signed their LOI.. Oh, and I also changed the uniforms. I was super busy and excited when you said I was in charge."

TJ passed out a dozen offers within a couple weeks of being back. I seriously doubt that Fred was too concerned with evaluating 2018 players in between interviews with NBA teams and heart surgery.

He has known for a while that he was going to the NBA, and probably trusted TJ to offer who he felt deserved it.

I'm not saying Fred wouldn't have offered Wieskamp, but I'm certainly not going to lose too much sleep over a 6'4" forward.

Offers aren't always 100% written in stone. You pass out a lot of offers to kids 2-3 years out, but that doesn't mean we would have continued to pursue him after Fred got back. He doesn't really fit the profile of who has worked well for ISU/Fred in the past.

Wieskamp did well at the atlanta super soph camp. he will likely be a top 100 type kid. however 2018 is a long way and its hard to day how he will develop let alone if the current iowa staff will even be there. he seemed open to ISU when offered.

Re: Wieskamp to Iowa

I'm confused. Are you excited about Iowa possibly getting better or something? You seem to be overly happy about him signing.

Just being realistic for all those in this thread who are now saying he's not good enough! This kid is legit and like I said we will regret not getting him.

Easily a top 100, probably top 50 type talent!

First of all Iowa produces the 10th most division 1 talent in basketball per capita in the country iowa 4a isn't prep school schedule but it is not horrible either. This isn't football.
Second, again this it isn't football. They all play each other in AAU at the same level of competition.

K, what are you arguing with? Pretty much everything I said you agreed with but worded it like it was arguing with me?

White boy from Iowa in the top 100, when is the last ones that turned out? Fred, Kirk, Collison, so 20 years?. Excuse me while I'm skeptical.

Remember when we had interest in Peter Jok? Then Iowa got him, and he was suddenly still his top 25 recruit that he was billed to be when he was a Freshman? Oh those were good times.

It's delicious that as a parting shot we baited them into taking a commitment from a junior high kid.

I can't recall for sure, but didn't Jordan Dykstra commit to ISU in 8th grade, not that it really mattered.

I have see enough basketball to know this kid is far from a proven commodity at the next level.

What was Iowa's current forward rated at this age? Number one in his class and he had a lot more athletic ability from the video I saw. That hasn't worked out so well for iowa.

Kid may be a great player eventually. I for one am not losing sleep over him from what I have seen.

Re: Wieskamp to Iowa

Pretty sure TJ offered when Fred was MIA and TJ thought he was in charge. Not saying he can't play, but I'm not certain Fred and Matt would have offered him.

Your butt certainly has less in it now.

My question on him is why is he listed as a SF at 6'4"?

Clearly he may grow more, so I'm not saying he won't hit 6'6" or whatever, but a 6'4" forward ranked #18 in the country doesn't add up.

How are his handles? Can he shoot? Seems like he would be listed as SG if he were a top 50 player with his measurables.
