If you aren't going to give those examples of other coaches, maybe you can at least say what makes Otz such a great candidate? Other than P5 coaching experience, because it doesn't count if it's on bad teams. That should actually be held against you.

Then I want Vance Downs. The guy is a winner. He developed Harrison Barnes and Doug McDermott. Two Lottery picks in the NBA. And Bubu Palo who played ball at Iowa State. Let's get him.

If Steve Prohm is such a slam dunk hire, then why wasn't he hired at Alabama or Florida. Alabama was his "dream job" he claimed.
True, Prohm only looks like a slam dunk hire in comparison to TJ, a guy that can't even get a Murray St type gig, let alone Florida or Bama.

There are no slam dunk hires. Even a guy with good success at the P5 level may not be prepared to have success at ISU- which is why TJ is on the list when programs like Drake gave him little thought. We are hiring for ISU, not Drake or Florida.

Each of the known candidates have several positives and negatives, but you seemingly get caught up in ridiculous and fallacious attacks on all but TJ.

Are you seriously comparing a high school coach to a Div. 1 college basketball coach?

Instead of critiquing other people's choices, please tell us, what makes your choice SOOOOOO much better.

The guy is a winner. He coached and developed 2 NBA Lottery picks. And he is right in our backyard.

LOL. I really did not think I had to use a jimlad. I guess I did.

Otz will make a fine assistant. Maybe after he's apart of some teams who achieve something, then he will find a promotion from us or another school.

Mark Few, Brad Stephens, Tom Izzo are all examples. Hell, the guy you are promoting, Steve Prohm was an assistant and then elevated to HC at Murray State.

yea but the list of assistants who didn't cut it is 100x's as long. And the thing is, the guys you mentioned, were assistants on final four/elite 8 teams/top 25 teams, not teams that finished .500.

False. Everyone you just said came from good teams. I want examples similar to Otz. Being promoted from teams that didn't achieve much of anything.

Post them.

So you are saying that Fred's teams his first 3 years did not accomplish anything? And I would say that some of Otzelberger's recruits were instrumental in the success we had these last 2 years as well.

You keep moving the goal posts all the time. Otzelberger does not get credit for recruiting because he is not the Head Coach. Yet, Otzelberger is responsible for the team's record because he is an assistant.

Good grief.

And concerning Tom Izzo, Jud Heathcote's teams were not all that great in the years that Izzo was an assistant there. Izzo came to MSU in 1983. They were not Elite Eight or National Champions. They didn't even make the Tourney some years.

Are you mad? TJ would kill for that resume.

Stormin is a nutcase. The dude comes on here and says that Prohm shouldn't get the job here because Alabama and Florida turned him down. Yet the guy he wants can't get a Div. 1 job period, and couldn't even get the Drake job a few years ago. Then he comes on here and says we are all against promotion from within even though it's absolutely clear that the issue is not promotion from within, but T.J. resume vs. the other candidates.

So you think TJ's two tournament wins and literally nothing else besides losing seasons is a better resume than a notorious winner? Someone who's recruited and developed better players at much much smaller schools with a bigger disadvantage?

It's not like we are gonna lose TJ because we hired someone better. TJ will still be here to do that recruiting you're raving about.

I'm a Otz fan over the rest for these reasons:
I don't like ISU being a "stepping stone" job, and Otz is the least likely (I think, though thought that about Dreamy) to leave, if successful, with his ISU connections. I feel better about ISU having the control in the situation.
Just because someone has HC experience, doesn't mean that would be more successful here. Every situation is different...things could go either way with whoever.
If Otz gets it, he will have a pretty easy first year as HC with this roster. Easiest situation to obtain HC experience.

Still waiting for that evidence that Otzelberger applied for that job.

IMO, Otzelberger's resume is about the same as the other candidates. There are holes in all of them. In Otzelberger's favor is that he actually worked with Fred which is something the others did not do. And we actually know who he is and what we are getting. Fred's comments that TJ would make an excellent head coach go a long way IMO. The fact that Fred chose Otzelberger twice to be on his staff speaks volumes. I still would prefer someone like Dana Altman. But I would Otzelberger over these other mid-major coaches.

I don't think these mid-major coaches are better. IMO, they are similar. I will take Otzelberger because of familiarity and because he actually worked with Fred Hoiberg......the others did not. And Fred hired him.....TWICE.

That isn't what I said. I said if Prohm is such a slam dunk hire then WHY didn't Florida or his "dream job" Alabama take him.

I can see holes in his background. There are holes in all the mid-majors and Otzelberger as well. None are what I would consider slam dunk hires. All have risk. I am merely trying to point out that there is risk in ALL of them. Some of you are acting like Prohm is head and shoulders above the rest. He isn't.
