Here are a few tidbits I posted yesterday that are still timely today...

Absolutely no interest by a huge portion of the donor-base to Nurse, Sadler, Davis, or Lutz. Good guys, but not a step forward.

Dont sleep on Drew, Stephens, Rice, Prohm, Underwood, etc. JP likes a budget coach with room to grow and there are several in this tier that make a lot more sense than those I put in my no list above.

There are what I consider two "surprise" candidates - one being Altman. He has some baggage like any coach, but he checks a lot of the right boxes for where ISU is and wants to go. There is a decent amount of interest his way.

Regarding JP/Leath "Friction"...

Now you know why we've mentioned Leath's name several times over the past week:wink: This was one of those things that wasn't supposed to be publicly discussed:no:

Regarding ISU's budget...

Just based on what I hear, I think ISU could afford up to $5mil without it causing adverse effects on other programs, coaches, prospective plans, contingencies, etc. That is just speculation based on talking with big donors and the discussions they've had with JP. Now, just because we can afford up to that limit, doesn't mean there is a scenario where JP wants to spend even half that, and he would prefer to spend a third of that at most.

Again, this is just conjecture based on various discussions, don't take it as an independent audit of the budget for the next 10 years.

I've also talked for the past two weeks about the friction between Hornacek and some established donors/concerned parties over past interactions and events. Those friction points are going to limit some of the support that is mustered for Jeff, but wouldn't be a major obstacle if that was ultimately the direction.

Regarding Leon Rice...

Posted about Leon Rice in the past being an under the radar but capable candidate, see that CW is hearing his name now too. Interesting candidate and very under rated in many regards.

Regarding length of search...

A couple reasons for the longer-than-usual process... 1) The candidate pool is much larger than it was expected to be based on the positive interest shown in the opening, 2) There is obviously the friction previously discussed causing a few extra discussions, 3) Some donors have expressed a lot of interest in having a voice, and 4) There is some consideration to giving Fred a chance to say goodbye given his stature as our University's ambassador (hardly want to announce a new coach before Fred has left the stage).

My question for the Otz is the guy camp is what kind of connections has he made to hire a veteran assistant that has head coaching experience? Fred has so many contacts in the game that he was able to get a guy like Bobby Lutz to come to Ames. Morton or Richardson are not going to step down from a head coaching gig to take an assistant job at Iowa St. Just not realistic.

Are you sure Moton wouldn't want to double his salary?

Altman? Blah. No thanks.

TJ has HC, keep Mann, bring in Craig Robinson, and another Recruiter or Jeff Grayer. Done.

Why wouldn't they pay Altman the same as Oregon does?

Why is it bad that Leach wants some say in this. Sometimes it is better to get a 2nd opinion on a hire before it is made. Many companies have a multiple interviews with multiple people. I don't see what the big deal is. Leach wants to make sure the right hire is made.

Very common. Our company had a hiring committee and multiple levels of interviewing. It helps to have different people with different perspectives in the hiring process and reduces the possibility of cronyism and discrimination.

Another poster mentioned yesterday that the DA had dismissed the lawsuit, but I can't find a link to back that up.

The DA said he didn't have enough evidence to press charges against the players.

I don't know what a DA would have to do with a lawsuit.

TJ is close with Craig Robinson I believe and wouldn't be surprised if he was on his staff

Robinson is not in a category with an ac like Lutz or Sadler. He's a decent recruiter but from an X's and O's standpoint, he doesn't fit. He's a Princeton offense guy, would be a big contrast to how we play now.

Has a Fred Hoiberg connection and a big 12 connection. SMU is facing allegations ect ect. He coaches here a few years, hands it over to OTZ. BOOM.

The only problem with Larry Brown is that he usually leaves wake of sanctions behind him as he moves on. (See Kansas, as an example). Only Team in NCAA history to not be allowed to defend their national title. Although IMO he could burn Hilton to the ground if brought us a national championship.
