Gary Parrish "ISU AD Jamie Pollard is handling Bulls-Hoiberg situation perfectly"

He may be doing what is best for CFH and JP individually and professionally, but I don't believe that it is what's best for the ISU MBB program.

only thing i did not agree with was who wouldnt wanna go coach Pau, DRose and Jimmy.....Pau has 2 years left essentially to be effective and Jimmy might not even be there.

Yeah, I don't think the Bulls job is really anything that great right now, like people are making it out to be.

DRose is basically average now. He's a shell of his former self. Pau is old, and getting older. Jimmy Butler is pretty decent, but not elite IMO. Noah is a headcase.

The Bulls might be better than say the T-Wolves next year, but I think the T-Wolves have a much better situation for the future.

As far as how JP is handling this, I don't think he has any other choice but to sit and wait and not say a whole lot. Fred holds ALL the cards, and JP holds none. I wouldn't put JP on a pedestal for how he's handled this, he's in a corner and there isn't much he can do.

There really isn't a "best for the ISU MBB program" option right now unless Hoiberg stated today that he isn't taking an NBA job in the next five years.

JP must agree since he tweeted the article

I'm sure he's psyched. When's the last time that JP got national coverage that didn't amount to "Look what that crazy Iowa State AD did this time". I'm not saying I agree with that perception, but nobody outside of central Iowa talks about him unless it's a story like the Big 12 refs rant.

What would you suggest JP do differently??

If it hasn't happened already, JP needs to give CFH a cutoff date to decide whether he is staying or leaving. This also means that CFH needs to give his NBA suitors a similar deadline.

Yes, this may upset CFH, but what can he do about it besides up and quit?

You're dumb. How does Jamie give fred a cutoff date? Under what authority? Fred's under contract for what, another 6 years? Jamie gives fred an ultimatum and Fred says... "or what? You fire me, and keep paying me for the next 6 years, and I go to the NBA anyway?"

It amazes me how people cannot separate emotions from business and plain old facts.

JP has no leverage to pressure Hoiberg like you suggest.

After reading this (and other) thread(s), I am no longer amazed.

Another example...the only possible leverage JP would have to keep Fred at ISU is to re-up the contract and make the NBA buyout clause the same as his college...but that would be a bad business move, because then Fred just doesn't sign the extension and pretty much guarantees he's gone this year or next if he can't get anything worked out for this year.

As others have said, I'd love to play poker with some of these posters...between not being able to control their emotions and making dumb moves because of their emotions, it'd be like taking candy from a baby.

One more year with Holberg and then losing him may be a crap bet, but when you don't have any other cards....kind of get what you can take. I'd rather play, bluff and win this one hand and then its a gamble on the rest, than lose this one hand and then still gamble on the rest.
