Interesting article in the USA Today Sports section of the Des Moines Register today about Harrison Barnes spending a week in LA being mentored by legend Jerry West.

He's having a real nice year, Grantland had an article yesterday about how much his shooting has improved. He leads the league in 3 pt % from the right corner, ahead of a who's who of shooters.

1. Harrison Barnes: 58.5 percent
2. Kyle Korver: 56.9 percent
3. Anthony Morrow: 55.7 percent
4. Danny Green: 55.4 percent
5. Klay Thompson: 52.7 percent

Becoming a buddy with Jerry West seems like a prudent thing to do for one's NBA career, whether as a player, coach, or front office.

Is anybody seeing this in the national USA Today? Or was it just a feature in the Des Moines Register?

Mark Jackson took the opposite approach last year and banned Jerry West from practices, surprisingly didn't end well with him.

Harrison has definitely improved this year after having a down year last year. Starting seems to make a big impact on his production. He's a nice role player but definitely has potential to be a go to guy. He'll be scary if he puts it all together but either way he's going to have a solid career in the league.

Part of me hopes he doesn't quite put it all together. I want to see this GS team stay as intact as possible, and Barnes reaching his potential will probably push him out due to financial obligations to other players.

Totally agree. Part of me would like to see him get a chance at being the guy somewhere else but I think I'd rather he stay put and be part of a special team. One of the best things about Barnes is he has star potential but a selfless mentality which is rare in the NBA.
