Bowl or Bust

If CPR is fired then that means Mangino did not do a good job as OC. It would be silly to promote someone who did not do their job.

No one on this staff would be the next head coach if CPR was fired.

At the end of the day, points gotta be put on the board in the Big 12. Thats why Mangino was brought in to begin with. If they can consistently score 3-4 touchdowns in a game, reaching a bowl will probably happen. If Mangino has a real Big 12 offense this year (who can drive the ball, and score multiple times) UNI, Iowa, Toledo, KU and TTU will be wins, and only one upset will be needed to reach a bowl. I can jump on board with that. (maybe move this to the optimism thread)

I guess I'll agree with you that if Mark can't get these players to score some points (Richardson, Bundrage, Lazard) then he probably wouldn't be hired as HC. Now, if they score 45 pts every game like at Texas, but give up 48, I could see him being HC as a possbility.

I have heard repeatedly how we will be beaten by UNI and a repeat of a 2 win season is to be expected. Constantly. Ad nauseum. And now you post this?

We can score 40 a game and still win 2 games. Did you watch our defense last year.

Good grief folks, there are so, so many question marks to this team, making predictions for the football team's success next season is something beyond my reckoning. For me, I'm just sitting back with a wait and see attitude. If this season is a repeat of last year, oh well CPR, it's been nice knowing you. If the season is successful, then alright! Predicting what's going to happen, or how it's supposed to happen right now is a fool's exercise IMO.

Agree that it is tough to make predictions concerning Iowa State. We are improved....but how much? And then you have things happen like a Freshman recruit at RB who could have possibly been in the RB rotation get accidentally shot it the hand.

Kids do stupid things. We are reading WAY too in to things if that is your idea of foreshadowing for bad things to come. Kamari got shot and he was defensive freshman of the year.

The incident with Cotton-Moya happened in 2013......he redshirted that year. And had a great year in 2014.

One of our 2 true Freshmen RB's was expected to contribute this coming season. IMO, that means it will be Josh Thomas now. Croney will likely need to RS to recover.

IMO, it would be better to have a choice between the 2. But it probably is not a big difference maker. More important that Syria does not have any issues. And that Brown and Warren do not get injured.

That's why you don't put your football program in the position where you are counting on true freshman to come in and contribute right away. That is not a good position to be in at all, at any position on the field, especially into your head coach's 7th season.

We are looking at a true freshman at RB to provide depth. If Syria comes back OK, it is very possible that both RB's would redshirt.

Bottom line we lost a couple of RB's last year that would have been seniors. Rob Standard left the team because of a lack of playing time last fall. Nealy was dismissed for reputedly refusing to take a urine test testing for drugs. If found, he would have been dismissed anyway..........third failed drug test results in dismissal.

Pollard has publicly stated now that there is no set number of wins that must be attained to retain CPR beyond this coming season. So the Bowl or bust argument can be laid to rest.

And for those wondering, it appears that season ticket sales are doing okay.

That makes sense, if he wins 4/5 games and another 3-5 games are last minute losses by a couple points - you see a real team, probably bring him back.

However winning 4/5 games and getting blasted in the rest of them, doesn't excite me for the future.

It has nothing to do with onfield production. It's about money. If fans continue to buy tickets, CPR is safe. Period.

Then why the continual statements that CPR must win 6 games and if he doesn't then he will be fired??? Your statement now directly contradicts that.

Are people saying this as fact, or hoping this is true? I think this is more what fans want. It would be bad for JP to put out an ultimatum saying 6 wins or else, but I sure hope he has some set limits in mind, of course taking into account how the team is run and how it looks.

Let's face it, he might be back with three wins. UNI, Iowa, KU victories.
