I think that Matt might not have the opportunity to go to NBA with Fred as an assistant. Fred wants to win and knows that Matt's strengths are recruiting, which is not needed in the NBA. So while I'm sure that Matt would have a place with the NBA team that Fred would go to, maybe he knew that if he wanted to be an assistant he would have to stay in the college game.

And I doubt that this whole thing is some huge conspiracy. I firmly believe that TJ came back thinking that Fred was going to leave soon and he has been told be Pollard that he is the replacement. But I doubt that TJ knew that it was going to be this year (if it is).

When Matt was here half our fan base didn't think he could recruit but now Fred wouldn't bring with him to the NBA because he is just a recruiter? Cmon man

If I were in Fred's shoes, it would be easy for me to say no because I despise the NBA. I would much rather make my name known in college bball and be the next Coach K.

Personally I would too, but it's pretty obvious how Fred feels about the NBA. He's an NBA guy, that's all there is to it.

Sports talk radio in Chicago heating up this morning again about Dreamy. They are referencing some DMR article that came out where Pollard talked about quoting Hoiberg that his dream is to coach in the NBA, but that the timing was up to Freddie? Are they referencing some old article, or is this a new quote?

This is the first time I've really starte buying into all the hype. Where there is smoke there is fire.... and right now there is a TON of smoke.

I remember Fred discussing how Johnny stepped down with a full roster of players to help coach Floyd. I wont be surprised if he does the same.

They are referencing some DMR article that came out where Pollard talked about quoting Hoiberg that his dream is to coach in the NBA, but that the timing was up to Freddie? Must be purely for ratings and page views.

They are referencing Pollard's quotes yesterday and the DMR/Ames Trib article that discussed them. So yes, new quotes from Jamie.

A full talented roster is one thing. A top 5 team with National Title type talent / aspirations is another. In addition, today's college basketball landscape is dramatically different than in the early/mid 90s. If Fred leaves, there is no guarantee that our current roster remains intact for next season.

It's definitely Fred's relationship with the front office, because from a purely basketball standpoint, you're right. D-Rose is not a stud anymore, those days are long gone, he may return to being a productive player but the All-NBA guy is gone. Noah has a ton of miles and injuries on him, Gasol is old and locked in for two more years, Dunleavy is a free agent. I'm sure Fred will better utilize Mirotic, Snell and McDermott, but the Bulls aren't going to be able to add another major piece with $61M already in salary obligations for next year.

And here's a fun fact about the Bulls, the Knicks have won more conference finals games this century than the Bulls have.

Might Pollard's comments be intended to prevent getting into a bidding war? Essentially, he says that we have given all we can give to Hoiberg. Pollard must have an angle or he wouldn't have gone into this much detail. He doesn't just talk freely about these things.
