I tend to feel the worst for our players. Am sure they're surrounded by this stuff and its getting old. Yet, they'll handle it like men "if" (and I said "if") something changes. Another life lesson like the adversity in a game throws at you. Its one thing, if you're asked to handle losing your beloved head coach; its another, to be amongst the dynamics that must be going on inside that entire coaching office, AD dept., and eventually the fan base. Frankly, its almost to the point where I can't wait for June to pass so we know if we either have: 1. a healthy favorite coach back out recruiting or 2. a new leader needing our support to keep Cyclone BB alive and well. Gonna be a long few weeks it appears.

Just remember that if Fred leaves, we didn't want him anyways.

Personally I think he will leave, but if he does or does not I think there is another point to consider...

First, as sad as I would be to see him go, Fred has to do what he thinks is best for him, how many of us would turn down what would seem to be quite a promotion?

As far as ISU goes, no matter what year he leaves it will put us at a disadvantage because unless he goes to a non-playoff time (which I doubt he would other than Minnesota), we don't have an open coaching position until late May at the earliest. Especially bad this year because we have a great team coming back to attract a good coach and nearly all of the "sexy" candidates are gone. Nothing against TJ, but we are legit top 15 program now with good exposure, we need an established coach to keep things going forward, but I am really concerned that whenever D-Day arrives, we will end up being a bridesmaid.

No doubt a disadvantage. Heck, no offense to TJ, but the timing of Matt A. leaving has already put us at a disadvantage for the time being. More than what some fans know, imo.

No. Fred can do math and see when he might/should pass the wins and would leave the season before that. Like I said it's just my opinion.

What if hes like 31 wins away? Would he roll the dice and come back? I mean anything within 40 he's got to walk right?

Yep. Thibs will likely go to the Pelicans and it won't be a true firing. But its been the worst kept secret in the NBA that Thibs won't be back.

Agree Pollard knows the day will come and Fred has been up front about the NBA. Fred has paid ISU back 10 fold

I hope Fred never leaves and wouldn't trade him for any coach, but I am probably in the minority in disagreeing that he has paid ISU back tenfold. He had no prayer at getting any other power conference or prob even mid-major job when JP gave him a chance. He has also had his contract reworked. I suspect this year will be where this changes, but overall LE and Floyd had very similar levels of success, and even greater if you weigh Conf titles and tourney runs It's also not as though he has turned is into a blue blood where we can hire a big name coach, aside from maybe Hornacek.

If Fred goes to the NBA, it better be the Bulls, and he better kill it and destroy the rest of the league.

1. First, I think Fred is more successful than Floyd was at Iowa State and quite possibly Eustachy.

2. I think leaving would hurt his reputation among Iowa State fans. Of course, we wouldn't hate him, but he wouldn't be loved like he is now.

3. It would be the biggest kick to the nuts Iowa STate fans have ever had. Way bigger than Natty Lite and Larry. Way bigger than an football related thing.

4. It would really, really, really suck.

If the worst happened, this would be the only situation that would make this whole thing manageable. The first thing Jamie should do is call up Hornacek and BEG him to come and take over. Tell him that he made a huge mistake in not considering him 5 years ago and offer him whatever it takes.

5 years ago, Iowa State needed someone to unite the fanbase. And Jamie hired that person. If Fred leaves after only 5 years, Jamie is going to need someone with star power and the ability to unite the fanbase even more. TJ isn't that person.

I actually don't think it's best for Iowa State if Fred leaves this offseason. We have one of the most talented teams in our history on deck and we need Fred here to coach them. I don't think just anyone, including TJ, can coach them to a Final Four like Fred likely can. We need him here to coach the team to hopefully something special. And the publicity we get from that will help Iowa State. Not him leaving and us squandering the roster that Fred has spent years building.

We're not allowed to question two guys who are only adding to the baseless speculation? Give it two weeks when Thibs is gone atleast and take it from there.

Although LE had greater success over a two year period, no coach has taken Iowa State to 4 consecutive NCAA Tournment, 4 consecutive winning conference records and two consecutive Big 12 post-season titles. The longevity of his success is much better than LE or TF who had 12-18 type seasons after 2-3 years of success.
