I could see him going to the NBA for 5-10 years then coming back and closing out his career at ISU. I'd be cool with that.

The NBA is a players league...college is a coaches world. CFH is 42? He knows once he jumps his "Dream job(Isu)" is gone. The avg tenure of an NBA coach is 2 years...2 years, that's it. Honestly I don't think CFH is ready for the NBA. Just my opinion. He has a lot left to learn and learning it on the fly with a NBA team may not bode well. Cfh is a God here in Ames, but in the NBA the fans and media and players could care less. You don't win, you're gone.

TJ has been on staff for 8 years, much longer than Mann.

I was one who didn't think he'd leave after this year but after these recent articles by people in the "know" (Blum & Chris) and the statement by Lorenzo Romar after the hiring of Otz, I think the writing is on the wall. Good luck coaching the Bulls coach Hoiberg. Thank you for the most exciting years of ISU basketball for me, hopefully Otz will continue the trend (with more emphasis on D & rebounding please).

I love Jamie Pollard but if this is true (which I highly doubt), it will be an awful decision. We could potentially get an existing head coaching and/or someone MUCH more proven than TJ.

This isn't 5 years ago when Pollard had to go outside the box because McDermott ran this program into the ground. If the ISU job opened up this summer, the program will be in the best shape in Iowa State athletics history (any sport) to find the next coach. To settle on an unproven assistant without testing the waters would be a terrible decision.

One more thought. Why would anyone want the Bulls job. Thibs is a great coach and is being pushed outta town. I wouldn't touch that job if I had an ounce of integrity. Fred isn't going to the Bulls. IF, and this is a big IF, he goes to the NBA it will be to coach Minnesota and it wont be till the kids are out of school. PUT IT TO REST!

I think that's the biggest thing people forget. No way I see Matt leaving if he had an opportunity to go to the NBA with Fred

For as much as Fred loves ISU, that must leave a sour taste in his mouth knowing his last game as ISU coach was a loss to freakin UAB and him leaving one of ISU's best teams ever assembled behind.
Fred knows the Bulls job will open up every 2-4 years.
If we made the final four this last season, I could see it. He has unfinished business in Ames. He'll be back.

I think you'll be surprised by what caliber of coaches ISU can get for MBB if Fred leaves.

Yeah because the McDermott years are relevant. He wasn't part of the two most successful years.

Otz wouldn't be hired as the head coach unless Pollard wants to be fired.

Or Matt knew that Fred couldn't hire him as an assistant in the nba, so he left Iowa state ahead of things.

A rare miss for Blum (still a big fan). I've read that same article seemingly a hundred times now around the interenet.

I've got a good buddy that is Mr. NBA...can't even stomach watching college basketball and you guessed it...he thinks Fred is a lock to leave for the NBA. I can't help but think NBA loving dudes seem to think Fred leaving is more a matter of when than college basketball guys.

Has anyone heard any updates on Hoiberg's recovery lately? I hope he hasn't had any setbacks. Since he usually wins twitter, I think it's a bit worrisome that he hasn't thrown anything out there since he was discharged from the hospital. I hope he is using the recovery time as an opportunity to be out of the public eye and spend it with family.

Whatever Fred decides, he has more than earned it. As a fan I am more worried this year than the past. There are a lot of things pointing to this being the year to transition if he wanted, especially if you can remove the fandom emotion from the equation.

This is silly. We just had the best 4 years in our history and you think the new coach will be better? I'd take another 5 years of Fred's supposedly bad defense and rebounding over ANY other coach. Easily.

"Hey Fred, Gar here. We're excited to have you join us in Chicago. I've lined up your assistant coaches for you already so you don't have to worry about it. I've also drawn up some plays for you to use. And I'll be paging you during games when you should call timeout."
