Nick Noskowiak

TBH I was never impressed with Custer. He had the skill set needed to succeed but he never had the size or speed. People may harp on our defense but Custer would have gotten abused on D if he would have played more.

Custer 6'1 160 coming in
NN 6'2 180

Might not seem like much but at the PG position that's big. Especially when NN looks a whole lot more athletic on tape. I'm hoping he fills the Monte role that he had early in his freshmen year.

20lbs seems like a lot to me that's an entire off season of weight that isn't easy for a kid like Custer to put on.

His signing with Marquette also caused us to back off him, since, you know, he was signed to play at another school. His release from Marquette also led to us recruiting him again, since, you know, he was no longer signed to another school.

He signed his LOI this past November,

It seems ISU cooled on him long before he signed with Marquette..

Probably a combination of TJ leaving Cooke coming on board, and a few other things.

For whatever reason we backed off, but now chose to try and sign him again. It was a very odd courtship, throw in his dance with Marquette of commit, decommit (Buzz William leaving) to re-commit and sign and LOI, to asking to get out of his LOI, the kid sure has had an interesting 12 months

Hopefully he has a successful career at ISU

Excited to land NN but just took a look at SDW highlights, andif he can't make it looks like tough road for NN nkt everybody can be a MM

Also he was committed to Marquette for almost a year thus ISU couldn't have "interest" with him until opening up his recruitment in the past 6 weeks or so. TJ was his main recruiter 3 years ago when he made his first visit and the relationship was already set. ISU offered years ago so the fit and potential had already been agreed upon. Took a lot of differnt turning points to end up at this point.

Nick opened his recruitment a few times after committing to Marquette. We didn't get back on him until TJ was back on board--even though Nick seemed to be interested in Iowa State.

Nick will commit because he probably doesn't care if TJ is the head coach or not.

Were those defensive highlights? I love SDW and was a big supporter of him but the dude didn't exactly play a lot of defense. Might be a factor in his lack of playing time? Hard to make a comparison unless you know how NN plays D.

Love how some are writing off a top 100 recruit before he plays 1 second of college ball. Genius

...Because we still had Custer at that time. Noskowiak opens his recruitment, Custer leaves, and we bring back TJ. Our interest in Noskowiak became much higher after Custer left.

I am saying that just because he is top 100 or 150 player does not mean equate he is a high major player.
Many of the kids in the lower half of these top 150 rankings do not pan out or end up transferring to mid major programs. ISU just went through this. I could provide a list of many others.

This on again off again recruiting of this kid tells me ISU was not sold on him, maybe due to his family issues, but could also be they were not sure if he could cut it as a high major guard.
Heck Matt Thomas was a top 50 kid and some this board have questioned his ability.

If ISU had 1 scholly to offer this kid probably not coming for a visit and would not receive an offer.
Don't think anyone can deny that.

But the fact is ISU has an extra scholly, its not a big risk, hopefully the kid is a homerun get.
NN had been a pretty consistant top 50 ranked player until he committed early and probably let off the gas a bit then missed half the season this year for whatever reason and raised red flags. The kid is a talent. We passed when we had less spots and thought we had 2 point guards through 16-17 Making him not a high priority need. Things changed. But if we had one left I think we very well may use on him. We need a point guard and he is our guy.

Confident guess: NN will be a Cyclone before Monday morning.

And to those saying you don't want him: you're crazy. It would be pretty hard to pass up a recruit like him this late in the 2015 recruiting cycle.

He opened it once when buzz left before he signed. He recommit ted then signed. He asked for his release in Febuary. He only opened his recruitment up once before signing and then left after signing. We pursued until he committed he opened up and we didnt repursue before he signed my guess is because Otz had the relationship, we had two young point guards, he fell a bit in the rankings and we had other more pressing needs with limited schollies. Not rocket science. Since then Morris is looking like a future NBA player, Custer left and Otz came back and the kid decommitted. We needed a point guard of the future and this kid looks like our best shot and we took it.

smh...this is the kind of thing that makes me realize we have A LONG way to go before we are truly a basketball school.

Yea, I remember thinking that watching his tapes. In all honestly CC reminded me a lot of Mike Gessel, I got trashed on here for suggesting that.

Clayton has a better looking shot but I can see it.

Count me in the camp as being excited for NN. Hope he signs this weekend!

I don't understand the skepticism. Noskowiak looks to be a solid four year contributor. He's got to be the top target right now that we have a chance of landing.

I'm now convinced that you are a genius troll. God I admire you.

Did he ever open up his recruitment before Custer signed? We had Custer, therefore little interest.
