Oh I'm a little confused about all these people citing the upper half of the big ten as demonstrating how tough Iowa's schedule was.

Just a little known fact. Other than Minnesota who throttled iowa and was throttled by tcu.......Iowa didn't play many of the top teams in the big ten.

I just wonder if their record would have been different if they had. Let me see...isu played all the top teams in the big twelve. All of them.

So if I am to understand the argument correctly had you switched OSU with illinois. It wouldn't have made a difference.

After all, who you play doesn't matter. Remember.

It is funny how many hok fans after that game state, "both teams are bad but there was no doubt that iSU is better."

It is like the iowa fan that always claimed that iSU's early season win meant nothing because iowa got better as the season went along and peak at the end of the season. That was the mantra until 9/11 moved the game to November and iSU beat them. That excuse went away for about three years then resurfaced.

Both teams were bad last year but one team beat the other at their place it is that simple.

Iowa has tradition. Don't worry about Iowa. In my 30 years I've learned that God loves the Hawkeyes. They are building a new indoor facility, and once KF leaves, they will hire Bielema and be a top 10 team again. Esp. playing in that weak (very weak) division within the Big 10.

This thread is bad and you should feel bad. Even if in your mind you have a dozen justifications why ISU is better than Iowa when you have a 2-10 record lined up against a 7-6 record, both in Power 5 conferences, you just end up looking like a fool.

It is embarrasing to see this thread still on the front page.

This thread has been my favorite thread in a long time. I am also amazed it is lasting so long, but I just get such a kick out of so many posts knocking any team that had five more wins that we did, regardless of their conference, schedule, etc. But keep it up - it makes for good reading!

I never said bowl games were the only criteria. Look at the final Sagarin rankings, which seem to be pretty popular among ISU fans. It lays it out pretty clearly that both at the top of the conference, and top to bottom, the B1G was better. The Big 12's #3, #4, and #5 teams were ranked slightly higher than the B1G's #3, #4, and #5 teams. Other than that, every B1G team was ranked higher than its Big 12 counterpart, in some cases by 50+ spots. As bad as the bottom of the B1G was, look at the bottom 1/3 of the Big 12, it was atrocious.

In previous years when the B1G has tanked in bowl games the claim is that it's a clear indication of how sh*tty the conference is. But when the Big 12 goes 2-5 and four of its top five teams lose, all of a sudden it's a silly way to look at conference strength. I actually agree with you, because B1G teams routinely play against higher ranked teams in bowl games, but try telling that to your fellow ISU fans.

I know that the Big 12 has hands down been the better football conference for most if not all of the past decade. It just wasn't last year.

I agree with most but the bolded, last year, the big 12 had the toughest bowl games, if only bc they have fewer teams. Last year the b1G had really tough games from Jan 1 on but prior to that, they had all cupcakes (other than USC/Nebby), so sure they had 4 tough bowl games but the other 5/6 teams all either mid majors or teams that finished around .500. Other than the top 2 teams, the big 12 matched up against teams that all had better records/or finished higher in their league. The big 12 was also the only league that play all its bowl games against other p5 teams.

In the past, b1G always got the shaft in bowl matchups but last year was nothing special. The leagues with 14+ teams just get so many teams in that they end up in the early December games against mid major squads.

And you clearly didn't get the point. I don't tell football teams that beat us that we are better than they are. That's why they play the game.

Football isn't basketball. There is no outside shooter getting hot in football.

Really? I don't think this team is that great and they finished with seven more wins than we did, and we beat them also.

We beat 2 MAC level teams last year.....Toledo and Iowa.

You're part of the reason that my Hawk friends call us 'Little Brother', regardless of our success over them in basketball. 2-10 season, with a blowout loss to mother****ing Kansas. We lost to Kansas. It's probably how Iowa fans felt when they lost to us, considering how terrible our coach and team is. I hope we beat them again next year, but stop making threads like this. They'll still win 6+ games regardless of how they do against us. Kirk can't coach against us for some reason, I love it. It seems he really has lost his mojo. That's nice. Let's wait for them to have an awful year (circa 2012) before making threads like these. They'll be better than us again next year, unless we can start playing defense. If your truly don't get the difference between a physical sport like football and a much less physical sport like basketball, I'm not going to explain it to you.

It just tells me you don't have much experience with sports.

Upsets happen in football, but they truly are rare. Basketball is a different story.
