Chieck Diallo rumors

St. John's get a big commit. Ellis is staying, so him and Bragg are likely the starters. Kentucky loses 7 players to the draft. Kentucky bound.
So he has a better chance of minutes going to Kentucky where they have returning senior PF Alex Poythress and Skal Labissiere, who is projected to be the #1 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft? Pretty sure he has a better chance of beating out Landen Lucas at Kansas for starting minutes instead of Skal Labissiere at Kentucky.

A lot of recruits really enjoy the attention too. Even if in reality they are only choosing between 2 schools, they will keep a few more for a top 5 so they keep getting attention.
Meh, maybe. Most recruits just like something about all their finalists and have a tough time pulling the trigger to commit to just one. Really, all of Diallo's final schools are good choices for his situation. It's a nice problem to have. We'll know soon.

Whole process is dumb. Why don't recruits just say "I want to go to KU if so-and-so leaves (or stays)" Or "ISU is in the lead but I want to see what Hoiberg does"

Why all the secrecy?

The timeless art of seduction.....

Yeah I wasn't talking specifically about Diallo, but about some recruits in general. It seems like social media has turned some into attention whores.

Our own insiders, like Chris Williams, stated on this site that we won't be getting Diallo. I'd bet he got that information from someone "in the know" at ISU. Thus I wouldn't have blind hope in this at all.

Chris didn't say that. He has said a few times that it didn't look good, or that the staff didn't feel great about our chances, or something to that effect.

Maybe they are 18, like something about all of the schools on their final list, are genuinely torn as to where they want to go and are a little uncomfortable at the thought of having to tell some of these coaches that have been recruiting them for years "No".

This is very logical and probably true in a lot of cases but the fact that it is logical means it has no business on a message board! Its obviously because they're self absorbed punks who want to continue getting as much attention as possible. They also don't want to have anybody ruin their big moment in the spotlight like poor RV.

Maybe it's not as simple as that.

Have you ever negotiated before? Never reveal your hand. If Diallo says he is going to KU if if person X leaves then the other schools stop recruiting him. Say something falls out and play X doesn't do what's expected and Diallo no longer wants to go to KU and is left scrambling for choice B or C. If choice B has given up on his recruitment and recruited someone else then he has to go to choice C and so on... Plain and simple he has the bargaining power that a recruit ranged 40- 90 does not have which is why you see those guys committed and the elite recruits still deciding.

No one told Jerry that our fan base already gave up on this?

It's the goddamn Russians.

Well, that's funny. Zagoria just tweeted a day ago that his h.s. coach said all 5 were still in play, and no schools have been eliminated. Looks like Jerry eliminated Kentucky and Pitt on his own then. CW isn't going to put it out there if he doesn't know from program insiders. Still betting that beer on KU. Of course that was before NYMatt left. Wonder when the overseas idea popped up. Not even been brought up by the other gurus before.

This highlights the pitfalls of these social media 'experts' exactly. he didn't eliminate them. He just listed the schools that he had been hearing about in conversations about Diallo lately. It's the people that follow these experts that overreact to every word they post that are the main problem.

Here's a question I was thinking about. You have to pick one of these two options. Which do you prefer? twocoach, no reason to answer, we know what you want.

(1) Diallo commits to St. John's and says "My relationship with Coach Matt was the deciding factor, I would play for him anywhere" or something like that.

(2) Diallo commits to Kansas, making them a better team

I don't want him in the Big 12 if it's not at ISU but it would be a classic ISU moment for him to go to SJU because of Matt A.

Caleb Swanigan was going to Cal as almost foregone conclusion by the end of his recruitment and his choice of MSU even surprised the MSU staff. I think it's an omen. :)

I don't care where he goes if he doesn't go to ISU. KU will get a great player if he doesn't go there and playing against him doesn't bother me anyway.

I won't be butthurt if he goes to SJ either. I have ZERO problem with Matt or anything he is doing unless I hear something specifically troubling. I don't expect to.

SJU no doubt. I think Diallo is the real deal and Tuco seems a little worried about Bragg next year...seems to have tempered his expectations a bit since he went all in on Cliff preseason last year. I'd love to see KU have to start Lucas or Traylor next year

#1 by far. For the simple fact that the butthurt from the cry-baby crowd here is going to be epic.

The word you're looking for is "realistic" not "worried". It doesn't make me worried that I don't think Bragg should be starting over a 1st Team All Big 12 player returning for his senior year. And he isn't a center and has nothing resembling the game of a center, so he shouldn't be starting next to Ellis in place of Lucas. I am excited that Bragg will actually have the chance to develop like a freshman should, off the bench behind an established star. That has been the model for KU bigs for Self's career at Kansas and they have been bad the last two years because their elite bigs had to be counted on to play right away. I'd rather that Kansas not need Diallo to come in and play right away because there was already a good junior/senior in that spot like we normally have. Lucas is nice but he should be a 10 minutes a game bench player, not a 25 minutes a game starter like he ended the year last year.

St. Johns is fine with me for many reasons:

1. We will never likely have to see him play against us, out of sight, out of mind.
2. He doesn't go to KU, not because I am scared to play against him, but they as everyone knows must be destroyed, so anything that would help their program take a step back is fine by me.
3. If he is following an assistant coach that isn't actually gonna coach him, then whatever, his prerogative.
4. Don't want to see him at UK, tired of them getting almost everyone.

Gonna be my last thought of Diallo in respect to why or how he decides where he's going. It's true, following recruiting this closely just gets frustrating most of the time. Afterall, so many schools want the same players. C'mon, we all know he's going to KU. I've already told myself I better get used to the idea. Not the end of the world. Any change from that now will be refreshing, tho.
